Anyone running the Vled Vtails tail light conversion kit?

He said something about not having the box to put them in but will send the lights if it was okay with me. It didn't bother me, send them on.

 

Yeah you’ll be fine. I have used amber 7443s from VLEDS for several years in my Frontiers, so I had them in hand when I got my truck. Meso was out of stock on the stage 1 when I got my truck so I actually converted the fronts to LED before the tail conversion was ever done. No resistors needed for front swap. Then installed the stage 1, still no resistors needed despite being all LED. Only time resistors were needed was with the turn signal on while in reverse, so the next time I bought something from VLEDS (I think the interior dome LED kit they sell), I threw a 15ohm kit in the cart for $10 or $20.

I will add that the truck hyperflashed anytime a front or rear turn signal was unplugged. But any amount of draw at all, LED or incandescent, kept the flash happy. So TRDs are not picky at all, yet you will still know when they stop working if they ever do because they should hyperflash (so long as they go completely dead and draw no load). If one or a few diodes fail, that won’t trigger hyperflash.

 

That last part is good to know... so if one of the LEDs goes out the hyper-flash will kick in like normal. Thanks for that.

Awesome, thanks for the great explanation! I didn’t feel I needed the brightness of the Triton’s, but I liked the built in connectors for the resistors if they were required. Now that I know this I should be able to just pick up a set of the 7443’s.

 

No problem. Just FYI, the resistors I bought came with a splitter that allowed me to hook the resistors plug and play to both the Meso stage 1 switchback and the VLEDS “stage 1” style switchback. You don’t have to have anything triton to use the resistors plug and play.

Also, I found the normal 921 switchback to be significantly better than the 921 triton switchback.

Unrelated to switchbacks or resistors, I would sort of like to try triton or V6 extreme reds, but I don’t want to pay….I’ve paid enough for damn taillights after trying all these different things. So I’m happy with the red 50’s as they are.

 

$68 x 2 for a set of 4 red 7443's. It's cheaper to buy a new kit vs. spare bulbs.

 

Yeah, there’s some serious discounting done via the kit….

My solution is keep incandescents in the truck as spares, I already own the 4 LEDs so if I ever need to swap one out, I’ll swap to incandescent brake lights while I wait for the new single LED I buy, or whatever the solution is. The good thing is I have never once had a failure from any of their bulbs so I doubt I’ll ever need to swap anything.

They came in this morning and I put them in this evening. Took 15 minutes and looks great. Super cheap mod that just looks so much better than the stock lights, they are bright, well made and beats the heck out of waiting for another company to get them in stock. I bought the resisters so no hyperflash. Now onto the front turn signal lights that I have on order>

Can usually find VLEDS bulbs at Amazon potentially faster than VLEDS or at least free shipping. Although the current discount may win out cost wise. Usually no discounts at Amazon.

Are those for the front turn signals?

 

Yesh, for halogen trucks anyways. I ran them until I swapped to OEM LEDs. Actually preferred that bulb over my OEM reverse sequentials.

 

Did they need resistors? TIA!

 

Nope. My truck did not need any resistors so long as bulbs were in place. I only got hyperflash when bulbs were removed or unplugged completely.

Of course, this is disregarding the turn signal in reverse scenario. Everybody needs resistors for that.
