Almost correct with your reply. Depending upon where the truck lives should dictate the CCA rating. High CCA's in cold climates, lower CCA's in warmer climates. Sold Sold Interstate Battery for 15 years in the South. Saw more high CCA batteries fail before lower CCA's fail due to heat. Conversely, lower CCA's fail prematurely in cold.

If you are such an expert (and I hope you are) ... Phoenix AZ. Hot enough in the summer to make the Devil move out decades ago, but only 2 hours from Flagstaff AZ so makes wintersports a significant part of the AZ landscape. Pick high CCA or low CCA for most-used space, or what makes the most sense in between?

Expert? I donno' 'bout that. I've just seen a lot and what I was taught and discussions with dealers all over the U.S. It would depend upon which location you spend the most time in. You are not really talking North Dakota, for example, where the truck sits in zero degrees overnight. Unless you are running a winch which requires all the power of the battery, high CCA's don't really matter. They are more a detainment. What you should be concerned about is your daily driving requirements.
Think about it, you mostly drive in Phoenix and during the summer, it 95+ F outside, what might be the engine bay temp? 175-190? The activity between the acid & the lead is accelerated by the heat and water is evaporating from the battery increasing the acid concentration to further react with the lead plates which have already been increased to get you to the high CCA battery. From countless batteries that I have seen cut open, the vast majority of the failures occur where the vertical plates and horizontal plate meet and is weakened from high concentrations of sulfuric acid. I would also add that MOST flooded vehicle batteries do indeed have a three to five year lifespan.
Personally, I would do your research elsewhere than on a forum like this where fantasies are abundant. A place like this is a great place to start.

True. I am from MN, so I am a bit biased. For AZ, high CCA is not needed.

Good quality battery, for sure. How long you planning on having that Deka last? It's not a permanent thing.

I love that show. Both on Motortrend and YouTube. I hope Motortrend renews it.

Back on topic, I was at Costco this morning, but forgot to look at the battery selection. One thing I've found with Costco batteries is that it's important to get one that's less than about 30 days old. The few that I've had problems with were 2-3 months old and had been sitting on the shelf. That was before they went to Interstate, which I think is their current vendor.
