RSI Smart Cap

So my 3rd brake light has been leaking water pretty badly. Initially I thought water was getting in from the seal around the back door. Did a hose test and it was pouring in around the light instead. Put in a warranty claim with RSi earlier this week and they've already got a new 3rd brake light on the way! Great customer service.

 

Had the same issue, expect I just unscrewed it and put a bead of clear silicone around it. No issues since. Maybe give that a try and hold onto the replacement. Assuming they don't want the other one back.

 

That was going to be my initial plan if they weren't able to send me a new one. Once I get the new one I plan to see what the seal is like and then make a decision on what to do.

 

Well imo, you dont want the racks to be even with each other if you're planning to run a RRT that overhang onto the cab. Because the bed flex when you're off-roading.

 

Yea they don’t sit perfectly even for this reason. They’re only a couple mm apart from even versus the couple inches of other racks like prinsu. The Ikamper overhangs with no issues.

 

Just got both installed, went really smooth! You absolutely nailed it with your suggestion, i expected them to be similar, and was surprised as to just how close they both are together! down to the textured load bars. Thank you so much for the suggestion! super excited to be putting them to proper use shortly!

 

Sweet! Looks good! Glad I could be of some assistance. Front Runner makes a good product and they make tons of useful accessories/mounts. Just to note, I added another set of feet to the middle of the platform rack just for peace of mind (6 mounting feet total).

So got the warranty replacement for the 3rd brakelight. Based on looking at this one and the one before I will 100% be putting a bead of silicone around it. The gasket protrudes about 1/16 of an inch off the plastic so there isn't much of a compression seal. In SoCal where we get a lot of heat (and the fact the shell is black steel) I can see how the seal degrades with heat and will start to leak.

 

My EVOa showed up to the dealer in just under a week and had it installed today. I'm super thrilled with how it looks on the truck. Pictures online don't do it justice IMO.

 

Im doing a 3 week camp trip this early spring and was considering towing my popup, but now im thinking a RTT may be the solution just for ease of driving. do you have the iKamper v3? and do you need any risers to get it to clear the lip of the basket?

 

I have the 2.0. The 3.0 wasn’t out yet at the time but they sell a conversion kit which is just changing out the canvas, it’s just a zipped in.
I used the front runner basic mounts, they allow the tent to clear the rack lip by a couple millimeters. I used that in conjunction with the sky camp 1.0 bolts because that’s what goes through the front runner mounts.
Any other front runner mount will sit taller and you’ll have a good gap between the lip of the rack and the tent.

 

So you used these mounts to go straight to the rails on the top of the rsi? no load bars?

nvm. looks like they go on the front runner rack and not the rsi rails themself

A HUGE!!!! shout out to TEQ Customs in Raleigh. They were able to secure one of the few remaining Inspired Overland tents (they have a demo in the shop). And TEQ let me ship my RSI SmartCap direct from Offroad Alliance (shout out to OA's Cody who handled the ordering). I heard "the waiting's the hardest part"... but only a month so not bad.

Watched lots of videos and hemmed and hawed. This tent doesn't collect water like others. As much as I wanted the GFC, saw lots of complaints on the tent flaps not zipping across the bottom, water collecting inside the mat area, etc. Granted this means one misses out on standing in the bed, but maybe that's the next evolution...

Others may disagree, and obviously do what makes sense for you. Just passing along current intel that's all.

Looking good, caps are made and should start shipping to distribution. With domestic trucking a little slow we should see some caps in the coming weeks.
