It’s not though. If compared to a TRX then sure.

Im on 33s and running about 650# of extra weight. Absolutely zero issues with power output. I travel mountain passes over payload often.

I would have gladly paid an extra grand or so for a factory installed locker.

    Oh why Toyota, why

I don’t get it. Normal driving I don’t go over 2500 RPMs, even up slight hills. Im on larger tires and carry 650# of extra weight.

What’s funky about it? You need it to go fast, floor it and she will go.

It’s adequate. When are you having issues ? I can go up most freeway hills in 6th. My auto couldn’t do to higher gearing

My black paint is dying and they wont cover that either. Wouldn't cover it on my first gen either but still a damn fine truck.

If by dying you mean fading and / or failing clearcoat, that is not the same as the SuperWhite peeling. It peels because it isn't properly bonded to the primer.

I’ve had multiple Tacomas and love each like a brother but thanks for a reasonable post about your experience w/o just spewing hate.

I’d also go so far as to say prospective buyers should pay close attention to well-thought out experiences that aren’t necessarily kool-aid b/c these trucks do have flaws and may or may not be your fit.

Test drive other brands and test drive full sizers vs mid sizers. If you bought the truck and hate it, life is short: Chevy/Ford/Nissan/Honda dealers would like your trade.

I'm 5'11" (6' on a good day ) and I find the Tacoma to very comfortable daily and on long trips. I guess just personal perception, I do enjoy driving it everyday - even though apparently it is uncomfortable;, sluggish 3.5 ICE POS

Yes the driver seat is a best 6 out of 10. The 4runner driver seat is much better.

I love my tacomas though. They do everything I need them for. The interior tech and design is lacking.

Here's my experience and maybe this is where some people are coming from (though probably not the OP of this thread). My wife and I have two cars: a Tacoma and a 2019 Expedition (big family). The Expedition has a twin turbo 3.5L V6 Ecoboost, very similar to what's in a lot of F150s these days. We live in a high elevation area with some pretty steep hills. Consequently, when I drive my Tacoma I move over to S mode and force the truck into lower gears regularly. When I borrow my wife's car, it's never an issue; the Expedition handles all the hills without cracking 2500 RPMs.

Nothing about this outcome is surprising. One truck is naturally aspirated while the other has a twin turbo setup. But I think people expect full-size truck performance from the Tacoma when it's really not capable of delivering that. I personally am not bothered by this, but it does bother a lot of Tacoma users.

Damn, that's brutal. Ya mines just clear coat/fading. While frustrating not the the extent of your issue. Good luck

Same with my tacoma being all stock. Truck will maintain 4th gear at 50 mph. at or under 2500 rpm going up some fairly steep grades in the D mode. I almost feel it wants to upshift, but doesn't.

Even red, or blue will do the same over time when left outside 24/7. It's got to be constantly waxed otherwise. Found these ceramic coatings a savior for us that don't like waxing vehicles.

Not going to lie, with the new GM, Colorado/Canyon, models, the redesigned Ranger, and even with things like the Ridgeline and Maverick there hasn’t been so much competition for the Tacoma since the 1990s/early 2000s.

Sounds like the truck is not for you, which is fine. We’re not your wife/SO, you don’t need to justify your financial decisions to us.

I will say I’m a bit bigger than you, and while I find the driving position to the sub optimal, especially compared to the 5th gen 4Runner, I have no problems jumping in and driving 5 to 6 hours despite being a fat old man with arthritis.

    I drive a Miata.
Bad seats - I'm 6'3. I didnt have seat comfort issues until I installed covers and heaters. That removed what little bolster there was - it completely removed the "bucket" and turned it into a tiny, unstable bench. A little bit of creative foaming restored the bolsters. I won't ever claim that the seat is the most comfortable in the world. But I do find it tolerable. I can and have driven all day and don't feel fatigued.

Inadequate passing when trailering - you lost me there. Of the 15-18k I put on mine annually, over half of that is pulling the camper somewhere, and over half of that is done in a single week. My 3400 pound camper hums along at 65-70mph happily. I can still achieve freeway speeds before I reach the end of an on-ramp, I don't lose speed in the mountain passes, and I can keep pace with traffic at every green light. If I need to do more than that, then I'm doing something very dangerous with a trailer. Unlike most people, I have found that the Tacoma is a fantastic platform for small trailers. Then again, I do see more than one crazy asshole on the road who is trying to run 85-90 with his triple-axle goose in tow. Yeah, I'll gladly pull right and let those people pass. But when I read comments about how the Tacoma is gutless, I imagine that the face behind that keyboard is the guy trying to break land speed records with his 12 foot tall trailer.

Noisy - fair. The amount of sound mat that I have installed probably weighs as much as a middle-school child. Then again, its a truck, and I, being a weirdo, expect my trucks to be a little noisy.

Radar cruise sucks - also fair. I don't use cruise when in traffic or when towing, which means I don't use cruise. The few times I did kick it on, I had to turn back off because of hills. My right foot functions as designed, however.

Altitude sucks - Disagree. My little trailer as spent the night well north of the 10,000 topo line more than once. I had no problems pulling the hills. Heres one such example before I got stupid with the wallet and started modifying it.

    upload_2023-3-27_13-30-23.jpg

But you know, that's just my opinion, man.

Yes it will go if you rug the pedal. That’s exactly what’s funky about it, you need to rev the crap out of it to get torque. It’s more of a sports car power band than a truck.
