This has been going around FB, can someone explain how this is really gonna help anything? If we all dont fill up on this day, then the oil companies know that we will just do it the next day so WTH? I dont get it.

Thursday, March 31 at 12:00am at Anywhere
Facebook has done some pretty amazing things. Anything from reuniting lost loves and old friends to creating a r...evolution in oppressed countries. I want to see if we can organize an event to reach as many people as possible to have a day designated to boycott all gas stations across the planet. I know this has been tried before, but not since Facebook has become the phenomenon that it has. So, send this event to everyone on your friends list, and let's see if we can start our own revolution, by letting these oil companies know we aren't going to stand for these prices!! Simply avoid all gas stations on March 31, 2011. Why not let Facebook help us spread the word! We're mad as hell, and are tired of watching the big oil companies laugh all the way to the bank while we all suffer! Let's do this! Side note: And since there seems to be so much confusion about what we are trying to do here, let me clarify now. This is NOT about thinking we are going to send gas prices plummeting downward because of this one day. This is about taking a stand, together, against greedy people whose commodity happens to affect ALL OTHER commodity's prices. What other commodity does that? And while you are at it... Reduce, reuse, and recycle. :)

Remember people doing this back in 2007/08, did not do much than and probably won't now. Lets just wait and see how long it takes to break the record from the summer of 08. Really loving this 15mpg I get these days.

    Doesn't work

    Never works

    Never will work

Automobile fuel consumption is minor compared to energy oil consumption.

Get everyone to turn off their power for a few days and see if that is better. ROFL

Ya, they have tried this a few times. The simple fact is someone schedules a road trip about the same time and NEEDS to buy fuel on that day! And others don't care! It is literally impossible to convince everyone not to buy fuel on a certain day! With all the big rigs being stopped, our economy would be even worse off due to no supply for the demand!

    this is stupid.

as fucked up as gas prices are, people would have to gas up the day before, or the day after, so really the gas companies would just get to see how much we really NEED that fuel.

Not buying gas for one day won't do shit.
But not buying gas for the summer from a company who drills for oil in the middle east would send a better message to them towels heads. When they have barrels of oil filling up the dessert, they'll have no other option but to lower the price?

Don't think it will accomplish anything. If no one bought gas on odd number days, they'd sell twice as much on even number days. Even if no one buys gas on March 31, everyone buying gas on the day before will make up for any losses. People are going to buy gas.

Exactly! Businesses rely completely on accessible transportation.

The only way this would ever work is if absolutely everyone stopped using gasoline for a substantial amount of time, much more than a day, more than a week and probably more than a month. The consequences of this from the business side would be much more substantial to everyone's pockets that we would be worse off then Exxon. Today's world is reliant on gasoline, so until there is another solution, deal with it. It's just like the NFL debate, the owners (oil companies) are so well off, they could withstand a hiccup in their profits, but can the players (us) still buy their mansions and bentley's after they are not getting paid anymore.

I hope today wasn't the day, because I will not make it home if I don't fill up today.
