"There was an unfortunate cascade of events and edge cases that led to this situation," Wassym Bensaid, Rivian's senior vice president of software development, told Insider. "But we take this feedback as a gift. It's great input for us to improve the product.""

This part stuck out to me the most in the article. You can remove the word "Rivian" and replace it with any software application brand, and it would make sense.

However, you're stuck in the snow with a rudimentary software application in this situation because they haven't thought of every scenario.

Imagine a Tacoma plug-in hybrid with a 30-mile range and a manual trans. I'm allowed to dream LOL

The smart ones must of left France generations ago. Hey Pierre, you're going have to pick that trash up at a latter date and it's going to be much more work than it would have been if you would have collected the trash on a weekly basis.

Why would you want to put charging stations here? It will look like trash.

You are not wrong. It's nasty.

The question is how does it compare to the alternative and can it advance.

It's nasty, but not as nasty as oil. There have been over 200 oil spills since 1980, that doesn't count the fracking, oil sands, wells, tankers, etc.
As far as improvements go, well we have already seen the removal of cobalt and there are developments into new tech that has potential. CATL is or will start selling sodium batteries, removing the need for lithium.

But it's not like you asked a question actually looking for an answer...and I doubt you will accept the answer anyways.

I feel that we ( humans) are trying to rid one problem with the global warming and emissions and creating one just as bad . What about our water and our soils for agriculture and sustainability when and if these battery disposal sites fail? They will. I probably sound like a blubbering Friggin idjit , but this is just my thoughts :notsure:

That is why quantity is important.

Perfect can never happen, people will have an impact. Trying for perfect will mean you get nowhere, perfect is the enemy of good.

Are EVs the best we can do? Maybe not. Is it the only thing we have that is consumer viable. Hydrogen has some interesting use cases but generally takes more energy, more infrastructure, etc.

We still have disposal issues with cars, it's just aken care of by dumping it in the air. At least with batteries you can reuse that material. Hydrogen would be better here but still takes either HUGE amounts of hydrogen or catalysts that also have a ton of nasty materials.

This isn't the beginning or the end, just a wave. In a dozen years, or a hundred, etc there will be another technological advancement. The first world will ride that wave and let the second and third get carried by it.

If you want to save the planet then get a bike, and a uirt, and shower in cold water. But that doesn't mean the rest of us who can can't be just a bit better.

The cars are there because it's a parking lot, the landscaping is there because it's mandated in some places. It seems counter productive to turn around and madate the installation of charging stations. Charge at home, if you can't charge at home the EV isn't for you.

Why aren't there more charging stations like gas stations? I think it's because it takes too much time to charge an EV when you are on the go, it really isn't the best comodity known to man to propel a vehicle.

I was also think about the electric busses. Why would you want your kids school bus to act as a battery back up to the power grid while it's not being used for it's intended purposes?

Just because an idea sounds good at a drum circle don't make it a good idea.

Don't bother. The reason why you would use the batteries in school busses was explained in exquisite detail. Which he promptly ignored because it didn't fit the narrative. He will only listen to information that continues to confirm his bias

It wouldn’t be difficult to design level 2 AC chargers that blend well with a nice parking divider. That’s a complete non-issue when it comes to their installation.

Why not hire some 21st century hippies? Instead of being useless and sleeping in their tents on the side walk all day. They could peddle stationary bikes at the end of the chargers to create electricity. The chargers wouldn't even need to be hard wired. I guess it would be inhumane if they had to work.

The battery bus concept sounds like some whackadoodle nonsense. Who comes up with this stuff? Design a common sense school district, and you could cut out 99% of the need for buses to begin with.

Wow you sound like a really open minded individual. Most homeless people have mental health issues and are unemployable. Retrofitting entire school districts is also a very costly endeavor.

I have a '19 TRD Off-Road which I've loved (so much so that I've put almost $30k in mods on it) and I'm looking to sell this thing soon and switch to an EV. Everything has pros and cons, but if I put bias aside and look at the facts, EVs really are the better machine overall when compared to ICE vehicles.

If I manage to sell a kidney, a testicle, and a lung then I'd love to get a R1T, but the fact is its outta my price range. I think even if I had the money I'd feel guilty spending that much on a truck anyways. Probably going to end up with a Model 3, which means giving up my love of the offroad :( The mountain bike may just have to scratch that itch for the time being.

Could always get a lower cost off road vehicle and the EV, if you have the space. Food for thought.

Chances are there would be no need to construct off shore wind farms on California's coast if all the Rivian owners in Beverly Hill could plug into to their Peloton and generate their own free electricity.

Actually I'm a big fan of the Ford lightning and would love to have one. I'm kind of done with the whole dealership experience and markup though, so I'd have to try and find a private seller. I like what I've seen from the Tesla buying experience.
Honestly, this is probably the smartest play at least in the immediate short term future. I should probably keep the taco and buy a beater for daily driving, but if you've ever driven an EV it's hard not to want it. The driving experience is just incredible

I see a Tesla on my commute to work most days, don’t know the model. The car looks really cool and usually winds up passing me, I drive like an old man. It can pass me like I’m standing still, and does so almost completely silent.
