Cruise control installation - differences in wiring harness ground?

    Hi there,

    I'm finally getting around to installing cruise control on my '06 base model 2.7L. I've read some threads and watched some videos, and it looks pretty straightforward. I went ahead and grabbed a pick n pull salvage cruise switch/stalk (84632-08021) from a 2015 4Runner on ebay (still in the mail), but the wire harness it comes with does not have the separate ground wire with spade connector that runs back to the airbag.

    Does anyone have experience with the pinout/wiring differences between the two configurations (one with the spade connector, the other without, where the CC harness just has the two wires leading to the plug that pops into the inner guts of the steering wheel?

    I have not disassembled my steering wheel yet, but I'm working under the assumption that I do have that single ground wire that runs to the air bag with a spade connector. So my question is, is there any reason I couldn't just splice the existing air bag ground wire currently in my truck (leaving the spade connector on and cutting at the plastic plug end) into the black wire of the 2-wire harness that comes with my new-to-me cruise control arm?

    I have checked that the CC arm/switch is indeed the same part number, but the wiring harness can differ among Toyota models. I would love to save the $40-50 by not buying a separate harness.

    I guess his solution was to extract the female pin receptacle for the pre-existing ground wire from the plastic plug housing. The plastic plug that comes with my harness has 4 places for pins, but the upper two (the upper left of which I'll need for the air bag/horn ground) are blocked off with solid plastic. I guess I could drill that out and insert the pin receptacle there...or just break down and spend the $50 for the harness :(

    Double edit: I got it sorted out. Turns out they have depinning tools ($10 or so on ebay/Amazon) to unpin the female pin receptacle out of the plastic plugs. Got a depinning tool kit, so I'll pop the existing ground out of the plug, and pop it into the harness that came with this 4 Runner's cruise control stalk. I guess the new harness does have the top holes open after all. Hope that helps someone else with the same situation down the road. No need to spend $50 at the dealership!

    Yeah, I think their may be some extra steps or parts involved with a manual. I recall hearing something about a clutch switch when I was researching installation, though I'm not sure how entailed the difference makes it or whether it's a simple 'plug and play' affair as it is with an AT.
