    Hey y’all,

Does anyone know if the OEM Tailgate Lock fits the SR 2.7 ACLB? I have been having trouble looking for confirmation on forums.

I did read something about checking the plug under the passenger seat?

    any feedback would be appreciated.

I believe the plug you need to worry about is in the passenger foot well, in front of the door. Thats where it actually plugs into the vehicle. The only thing inder the seat is the rubber plug where the harness enters the vehicle.

I agree with this advise. OP, watch a few vids and see if you have the plug behind the passenger side kick panel.

Looking over the OEM instructions it says to disconnect the negative battery terminal and that you should use 3M Body Sealer on the single clip in the tailgate.

For those who have done the OEM install did you disconnect the battery? Is there really a need given the connections are just plugged in? Also that body sealer is expensive for just one dab. Did you guys use it?

Came here to ask the same question about the body sealer.

This is definitely on my list of things to do. It’d be nice to be able to remotely unlock/re-lock the tailgate with the app if I’m stuck at work and have something back there someone needs to come pick up from me.

I’ve gotten in the habit of always disconnecting the battery when I do anything more than cosmetic stuff like trim rings or decals. My rule is if I have ave to unplug anything I’m disconnecting first.

When you have disconnected the negative battery cable did you lose any info such as radio presets, maintenance reminder, other settings such as for locks, lights, etc?

None of those that I’ve noticed. It did reset the fuel mileage history. I haven’t done anything that I’ve had to have it off very long for though either. Maybe 20 minutes tops and that was for swapping the factory LED fogs for backlit diode dynamics SS3’s. I only had it disconnected a few moments installing the Fitcamx dash cam and a similarly short time for the smoked mirror signals.

I did the install and didn’t disconnect the battery, I didn’t really see the need to with the truck off. I understand why Toyota recommends it just to be overly cautious. For the clip, I just used some silicone gasket maker I had lying around underneath that clip when I put it on.

I did not use the body sealer. I had some scrap PPF lying around so I put that between the clip and the tailgate frame.

By ‘PPF’ did you mean paint protection film? I have some of that too that I could use.

Disconnecting the battery when doing anything related to a vehicle circuitry is considered best practice. There really is no downside to disconnecting the battery, but there is always some degree of risk if you don't. Probably no big deal if you don't, but then again!

    Carry on!

If I was doing anything major that required splicing wires or something I definitely would. But simple plug and play stuff like this and replacing speakers I don’t bother. Just personal preference!

FWIW, not that anyone asked… When deciding on a topper, the side project that also got checked off was the remote tailgate lock. The beauty and simplicity of the key fob programming:
1 beep lock: front door and topper locked
2 beep lock: all doors and tailgate, topper included
3 beep lock and hold: remote start

1 beep unlock: driver door and topper
2 beep unlock: all doors, topper, and tailgate

Ahh the beauty and enjoyment of truck technology working in action.

I went with the pop and lock and have no issues what so ever. I feel like it was a little bit cheaper but I don't remember.
