I have a 2023 Tacoma Trd off-road with 5k miles on it. A few weeks ago a shop installed Fox race series RR shocks front & back with a 2” lift. Deaver springs, Total chaos UCA, 32” tires & 704 method wheels. A few days after it was finished a horrible knocking sound started. It’s mainly in the front passenger side. I can feel it in the floor every time it does it. Took it back to the shop 4 times. Replaced the UCA’s twice still does it. The shop is at a loss & says it’s “safe” to drive. It occurs every time I reverse, accelerate or decelerate. From 2mph to 75mph. It’s worse at lower speeds but I feel it more going faster. Its more severe going straight & it’s never just one clunk it’s multiples every time & they vary in sound. It seems like the truck is going to fall apart. Any ideas??

    Welcome to the site Tampon!

If you were to be driving ~10mph or so and the gas, let off, tap the gas, etc. does it make the clunk every time? Still have the sway bar on? Have you looked for anything rubbing?

Can’t say I have any good ideas but do you still have the OEM wheels/tires? If so, throw them back on and see if it still does it. did they put on a diff drop kit? Maybe they forgot a spacer or somethings not tight.

I’d also suggest maybe checking out the regional thread you’re in and see if there is another shop to try out for diagnostic.

Thank you! Yes, it still clunks doing that. I still have the sway bar & there’s no wear on anything that I’ve seen. It makes no sense

When I first took it into the shop they put the OEM wheels/tires back on & it still did it. They didn’t install a diff drop kit because I only lifted it 2”. The shop has no clue what it could be but it didn’t start until after they modified it

Where are you located? Might be time to have a different shop take a look. What you’re describing doesn’t follow typical things that occur during a suspension install so something might be loose or making contact. It would likely take a different set of eyes to look for signs of what’s wrong.

    Enough for now
Mine does it too, especially when turning right at low speeds. Started after my lift and goes away when it’s warm out. Getting bigger tires also made it less frequent. It’s a truck and you’ve modified the suspension geometry, as long as nothing looks broken, is contacting metal on metal, or unsafe I wouldn’t worry about it.

I also changed my radiator bushing with the energy suspension harder ones and the sheet metal above them is cracked so I tell myself it’s that.

Check your dust guard for your passenger side brake rotor. It may have gotten bent inward and hitting it. Also show me a pic of your passenger side in front of the tire towards the inside underneath of the truck.

Yeah but a knocking noise everytime you tap the gas or brake isn’t normal. Sounds more like something is loose.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
A 2023 shouldn’t be making any noises after a simple suspension install. Have someone else take a look. If something is found, go back to the shop you paid for a service to properly address it.

If you are constant on the gas and hit a bump does it make make be same sound? Or only off and on the gas?

Mine doesn’t go away with weather it’s consistent. A truck should not be making a brutal knocking sound after upgrading the suspension. The issue is nobody knows what it is so I don’t know if it’s safe or unsafe. haha you might want to look at it again to make sure you’re safe too!

It makes the same sound constant on the gas going over bumps, going over flat roads, turning etc

Okay last one. What if you are stopped and turn back and forth? Any noises during that?

With the sound it’s making I might be stranded soon! Thank you :)
