We're fortunate to be 10 minutes from a lake. Throw our boats in the back of the truck, one strap to secure them, on the water in less than 30.

Agree, some articles even state that it's higher than that!
20% of the population on welfare, doubt if they pay any tax, then those on low income with tax credits could easily double that, the 20% figure is based on SSI records, they should know! :notsure:

Good morning fellow Porchatonians. I took the zero turn to the shop to have it serviced yesterday - will take the garden tractor in when I pick up the zero turn. Our grass is just beginning to green up a bit but it won't be too long before I'll be cutting it.

My son has cut our lawn 3 times already this year. Grass and weeds are spectacular this year.

Good morning. Slept in till 7am, went to bed at 1am. Off to the gym in a few but taking the time for a second cup O Joe this morning. :pccoffee:

I have spent the last two days upgrading the software on my little Synology DS211j NAS. Learned a lot in the process. I think I might upgrade to a 4bay NAS this summer. If you have ever considered a NAS, Synology makes a well built product. I purchased mine in 2012 and they still support the product with tech support and software updates. The 4tb storage on board is not all the way filled up yet but moving forward I want to do more on the platform with storage and back-up, might even add video surveillance into the mix.

Talked to the wife about beefing up the padding for the front seats in the Avalon and got the green light to get pricing.

Ever since the numbers data can becomes a narative pusher, many decison makers have been using it to polish their project outcomes.
My boss call it "massage his numbers" because he is an accountant; I call it "maximize the advantage to one's perspective" depends on how the numbers were focused, because I believe choosing different set of numbers to focus on the matter within the same pool of data can really mislead people.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/spring preppers. All this tax talk reminds me of something my dad's financial advisor told him years ago, after they were both retired and living on their savings. Dad was griping about paying estimated taxes; the advisor told him "I love to hear my clients complain about paying taxes -- it means they're making money!"

Thanks for this! Lately I've been getting hounded by google and iCloud that my storage is filling up, and it got me thinking that it might be time to rely less on the cloud and bring some of that long term storage function back to the LAN. We have a 2-drive 2TB NAS unit, set up as a RAID1 array. It's ancient and it has some niggles that I don't love, but it has been reliable (knock wood). I moved a ton of stuff off of google and onto the NAS already, but it was a manual process and took a lot of time. I want to look into automating it somehow, and I want to upgrade our home storage at the same time. I'm also looking into expanded video surveillance, and would prefer not to rely on the cloud for that as well. I'm looking at expanding our array of TP-Link network gizmos for that. I'll definitely check out Synology as a storage solution.

Congratulations on a much deserved retirement. Funny thing about seeing folks, I took a new gig back in May of 2021, and now, almost two years later I have only met a single person who works for my company, and only because he and I happened to be in the UK at the same time.

    Morning all:

    Sue!
You will get used to it, and hopefully enjoy many years of doing what you want to do when you want to do it!

TRUE, but I look at it more like I take the risk and they get a big reward!
Can' really complain, but right now I'm hemorrhaging money, 2022 tax payment due, 2023 first est. tax payment, spring real estate taxes coming up, and need to fill the oil tank shortly, not exactly chump change! :spending::spending::spending::spending:

EXACTLY!!! My best year I paid 18K to the IRS, and was happy to do it. Before deductions it would have been 42K and I would have still taken that year over most if I'd had no deductions.

I understand the complaints... but I get a lot of value from the taxes I pay. Of course that doesn't mean I don't use every deduction I can to reduce my taxes. That's just good business.

I remember as a kid I had a job that paid ten cents over minimum wage and I put in a hundred hrs in a week 200 in the pay period, I thought dam 120 hrs of ot. I had covered for a guy that was on vacation. I showed the check to my dad and he showed me his. Talk about a let down his with holdings were more than I earned. Granted I was only earning 2.05 an hr. that was an eye opener. About 1975. Worked 12 16hr days and 1- 8 hr Sunday.

In the 1970s, Japanese Import Engines started flooding the west coast. Someone figured out that the cars that were scraped in Japan, those engines/transmissions had value in the USA. So fill up an entire freight container and ship them to the states. L16/L18 (Datsun) 2TC/18RB (Toyota) could be found for $250; if it had the rare Solex (Mukini), those were snatched up quickly, but SU (Hitachi) was about $300. The trick was to find a "blown engine" car for $200 and drop in a replacement motor. Often I would toss on the new clutch ($80 for PP, Disc, TO). Little stuff like brake pads and shoes. $500 into a car, and you could sell it for $1000. It didn't talk long to realize 50 hours of labor netted you $500. Challenge was to find a "blown head gasket" car without too many issues; most in California were rust-free, and you wanted original paint that could be buffed out (10 hours of detailing could bring another $200).

Sadly CARB (California Air Resources Board) shut the market down, so import engines were often stripped of intake and exhaust manifolds. You had to know your cylinder heads as some heads wouldn't match up our old manifolds. I went back to school to get my BSEE, so I never looked back, but I probably made over $10,000 in my car flipping teenage days (Paid for BSEE Cal Poly, SLO).

$100 for forty hours of labor (grease monkey, gas pump jockey, part counter guy at $2.50 to $3.50/hr), but in my "spare time," I was always on the hunt for those clean "dead engine" cars. I made about $12 to $15/hr for my time flipping those cars.

These days I wonder where all my energy has gone!
