Hey all, new for the forum recently bought my 4th Tacoma. I am curious if anyone has experience adding a remote start harness to 3rd gen Tacoma. They are advertise most as plug and play no wire cutting. Has anyone installed one? What company would your recommend?

I did the start-x one off Amazon.
Works but range sucks it uses factory key fob. I thought the newer tacomas have the ability to remote start, maybe it depends on trim level.

You have factory remote start, hit lock twice and then the third time hold it and release and the truck will start. My 20 sport has it

My 2022 Sport has it. It is also only available for the first 12 months, after that it is disabled unless you pay the monthly fee which I think is $10 bucks.

I have this on as well. Easy install, works the same as factory with the smart key. 3 mississippis on the lock button (press, no hold). Can’t speak on its max range but it’s worked around 50 yards away for me.

Whether pressing the lock key twice and holding it the third time may depend on if you've opted in or not to remote services.

I think the remote service is so you can start the truck with your phone, not the key fob.

Went with N2 very easy to install less than 30 min. Works great can upgrade to phone app if that’s your thing.

Some of the "still works for me" may have to do with the app on your phone. I think there was a thread where someone reported that when they removed the app from their phone remote start failed to work. I am the second owner of this truck, 18 months into its life. Remote start works and I never loaded the app.

I think the general conclusion drawn was "force remote services computer to re-think your services" is the break-point.

    Your proving my point.

My understanding is that the phone app will work for 12 months from the date the truck was purchased new.

After 12 months is up, you need to renew the subscription for the phone app to continue to work.

They key fob will continue to work even if you don't renew the subscription.

    Brand new.

I have the remote start with the use of my phone or my watch, though it costs $80.00 per year for the service through Toyota, but i have started my truck for my wife while she was at the GYM to warm it up for her and the gym was 3 miles from our home. so its worth it in my my.
