I love the sound of the 2GR ripping in the distance! I'd love to ride in one at some point, not many MR2's within 200 miles of me let alone swapped ones.

I've been contemplating a 2AR swap more recently until I can save up the funds for a proper 2GR swap with an E351 trans. Frankenstien recently posted on facebook on a CA emissions compliant 2AR-FE with S54 trans swap that has less than $2500 into it and will make around 180whp. With non CA compliant parts it would be around 200whp. With a 2AR-FXE out of a hybrid it would be around 230whp due to higher compression and bigger cams from the factory. That's hard to beat for that price, power and reliability!

What suspension are you using? That's my next investment along with wheels.

It’s in what the car came with right now, but I have TRD Japanese springs, and Koni inserts going on it with Alex’s geometry correction kit.

my black mr2 will be going 1ar because I have an 1ar laying around. Probably boost it

It went back to storage for now. Drove ok. But this transmission is getting ripped out soon as I can. The clutch lsd does not belong on streets. When it locks up from a stop and stalls out.. life’s not fun. Just have to keep the rpms higher than I like leaving a stop and start in 2nd gear

A quaife lsd will be going in. Making the order next month. I also have a custom 5th gear and 3.9 final to toss in

Nice! I've been debating getting Bob Phams coilovers since springs, Koni's and upper mounts come out to about $1400 and Bob's are $1600.

I haven't seen many do the 1ar swap. I've seen it talked about but that's it. I'm assuming you can use the 2ar cams for a bit more power?

The cams are the same. Only difference is the stroke. I have a 2ar block I’m tossing 1ar internals in. Me and Marc are going to tackle the turboing it and try to shoot for stupid numbers on what essentially is going to be a junk motor lol

In other news I have a brand new transmission Coming. This KAAZ LSD is not streetable, and now I need a second transmission. So a brand new OEM mr2 turbo trans with a viscous LSD is inbound. Going to toss the custom 5th gear in it and rebuild the one that came out with my other viscous LSD fr the black car

Having finally driven a gen 5 3s Gte. Yes the boost is fun. But the 2gr grunt is just… amazing

That's freaking awesome!!! I'll be following that one just to see how it goes and all the parts you end up using. I think a turbo 1ar or 2ar would be pretty darn capable, even on a stock bottom end. I'm guessing the 1ar/2 hold up to about 350whp reliably?

As for the transmission, why not go with an E351 for longer gearing?

Im too vested into the 153. If you knew how much I have paid for mounts and shit. Plus the extra 153 for the black car will be ideal.

As for the ar, the TC guys have gotten 400 reliably. Transmissions are their problems. Marc thinks we can do 450 reliably. 600 dyno queen numbers though.

New e153 is here, waiting on the quaife LSD and locating a 3.9 final drive gear set. I did pick up the last 3.9 output shaft from Toyota already. Also now have a working speedometer, and the tach peg was fixed so my tach no longer sits at -2000 rpm when off. ~120 miles on the swap no major issues. Trying to get to around 500 for an oil change to check the oil condition, if all is well Kelford -b cams are on the books. Engine and transmission out at the same time then.

Nice! My tach needle recently stopped working intermittently so it was time to solder new caps. Probably means it’s time to replace the ECU caps as well…

yea my tach was fine electrically (all the resistors and caps replaced for the v6 conversion) but the peg was broken off. so marc managed to use the soldering iron to pull the peg off an avalon cluster and melt it onto the mr2 cluster.. slightly shorter than stock. but it holds the needle now.

gotta love getting a defective new part. one of the koni strut inserts appears to have no gas charge... there goes getting my suspension done this week.

other than that, geo kits is coming this week and the under body brace.. ~350 miles on the car so far since swap, no notable issues. coolant doesnt go past 201. really cant complain other than the LSD being a bitch to drive with

JDM goodness has arrived. Factory turning fog lights. MINT. when they popped up for $180 i couldnt say no, they typically go for WAY more money.. now i just need to get the steering angle sensor and the switch + computer (not as hard to find, i have a British friend) to make it all work

the fog lights do indeed turn with the steering wheel.. factory option in the early 90s in japan
