It is certainly a challenge, but it is fun when you can make something that isnt offered on the shelf, and it turns out nice. This has certainly opened my eyes that i need to practice more regularly though!

Made a little more progress today after work. I switched out to .045” filler where I was using 1/16” before. It seems much easier to dab it in there without it bunching up like the thicker stuff. Also makes it easier to move more quickly so the project is going much quicker. I have most of it welded up now, just need to finish up the ends, and the flange, then I can move on to the next section

Your welds nearest the flange show the most improvement. Working on the straight portion now?

Lol unfortunately it’s not that easy for me.. I will have to practice more and give it another go. Should fit better the third time around though in theory!

Just finished up welding the flange today.. got a little side tracked though and relocated my backup camera. That involved a little AC tig though so got to get a little practice on that

Relocated my backup camera today. I ordered an OEM replacement camera for the tailgate so I could use that one now, and an additional OEM harness. I’m going to make it to where I can leave the one in my tailgate and then just plug in the relocated one when I have my tire carrier on the back like I do with my license plate light. Added a little Toyota FIPG around the camera before tightening it down, so hopefully it holds up out in the elements.

Did you get to practice on my ESAB welded, or was that on my Miller?

Made quite a bit of progress today on the downpipe. Got final test fit done and now I just need to weld everything up and add o2 bungs. I’m also considering adding an EGT bung, but those appear to be a different size than the standard o2 bung, so I may wait on that.

Done for the day. Got everything welded up except the two welds near the outlet. I’ll try and wrap those and the o2 bungs up next weekend, then I can wrap it and throw it on.

That flex pipe and v-band is what I need to do to my truck. This is the third time this has happened. Granted it's a fleabay/cantazon muffler. It was also put on by the previous owner.

A flex and v-band should take care of that problem once and for all. V-band is hard to beat if you ever have to take things apart in the future!

Ok, I got a question about welding Stainless with a MiG. Ok, 304 Stainless what Stainless wire would you recommend and does the gas need to change?

    Sounds good to me!

Thank you sir! I am hoping it still fits well once it gets installed and i put it through it's paces. Seems to fit a little better than the last one.

For 304 on the tig, i use 308L filler. I am not sure if mig is any different in that regard..

I have seen that swap on FourWheeler. Pretty cool indeed, but at the end of the day, it's a timing belt motor, and you're limited on what clutch you can run if you do that swap with the 5spd. I did look into this at one point, but the timing belt motor and the frankenstein clutch/pp/flywheel kinda deterred me. I think argon is used for mig as well, but you'll need to confirm that..

Thanks for the info on the welding!

“Timing Belt motor” other than needing changed more often I don’t see an issue unless they have an issue with the belts? Just curious does the 4.7 V8 run much better than going with a 4.0 V6?
And you’re 100% right I didn’t think about the clutch. Too bad someone doesn’t make a twin disc clutch. I got a really good Summit private label twin disc clutch (well everyone is raving about it in the reviews and it sold out quickly) for $700 and it comes with everything including a billet FW but no hydro throw out.
