Hello, crew. First post after a year of learning a ton about tunes and mods from reading here.

so here’s a really dumb question from someone who’s been living in a city without a car for a lot of years….

Mechanic told me these pads are close to being metal on metal, and this photo seems to bear that out? Right? And if so, should I have him do both pads and rotors?

Annoyed because I have barely 20k miles on this truck. But I do live in a pretty hilly area and I probably drive it hard.

    thanks for feedback.

I can’t tell by the pic where the pad material ends. Replace them when the material width gets to 2-3mm. If you have no shaking when you brake, you can re-use the rotors.

If I’m seeing that correctly they’re not even close to being metal on metal.

So if you look closely the black is the backing plate and the red is the pad material. I’d pull a tire and confirm but that is what I’m seeing in this pic. It would unusual for you to go through a set of pads in 20k. 450E67D8-D2D2-4180-B9D1-251E3EABA49C.jpg

I'd want to see both sides of the rotor, to see if you have even wear (as well as the other wheel), because that pad seems near new, depth wise.

Also, and this is not meant to be a dick, here, but do you drive with your left foot on the brake?

Ok! I was wondering that... thinking is THAT (red bit) the pad? Or is that whole thing (red and black) the backing plate and the pad is all gone...

    Welcome!

From that picture I would say the pads are fine. It looks like that pad has plenty of material left.

Remember though, you have 2 pads per side, one of the other three could be worn out. If so it would be unusual for a new truck but not unheard of, so make sure to check all of them.
