It will be nice once satellite texting becomes more popular with cell phones.
The Apple set up is cool but only allows for preselected messages. My understanding is the android version is more flexible.

I have also looked at the Garmin inreach. But have the same issue. I’m not out of cell range enough to justify the cost of the service.

Yeah, at this point I'm sure it's too pricy for what we'd use it for.

It would be nice but they keep jacking up the price and trying to lock people to a region. It’s also been slowing down quite a bit now that there’s more people on it

This is fairly limited at the moment but it’s a matter of time until connectivity and technology improves enough that you can be connected anywhere. Although I’m not sure I want to always be reachable lol

I’ve got one. The plans aren’t too bad. I mostly use the tracking points so people back home can see where I am and send a message in emergency.

So I do tech stuff for a living. I agree, I don't always want to be reachable. But when I do it would be nice to get service. I haven't pulled the trigger on a WeBoost because it has some limitations that I don't really like in 2023, and because I can get extra nerdy with it since that's what I do. But all that being said I still haven't found a good solution for this yet. All existing options are half measures in my opinion. Now that said if you don't go to super duper remote places then something like a WeBoost probably fits all your needs.

On the other hand I currently employ a more low-tech solution: I just don't have anyone at home who loves me enough if I go missing, so there is no need to reach them when I'm off-grid. Pre-download offline maps and then I have no real need for more tech than what I already carry around on my iPhone. Less money spent on technology = more money for truck parts/mods. *Taps forehead*

    :rofl::rofl:
See that’s exactly where I F’d up! Having people at home who “care” about where I am.

Would anyone from the Racine Kenosha area be able to TW express a bed mat to the Wyalusing meet up for Brian @rockindoc75?

Definitely. I don't live down there, but I work down there pretty regularly. I'm actually going to be working in Racine tomorrow.

Or, I believe @Camerasandcoffee is coming on the trip as well.

Awesome, I can meet up around Racine pretty much most nights after 5pm. I can get a convo started with the three of us.

I'm in Kenosha and could also TWExpress it if that helps save you a longer drive. Suppose it depends which side of Racine you live on.

Usually I prefer to wait and read reviews, but I think I might pre-order it and hope it's good because being able to have contact without cell phone reception has been something that's been heavily on my mind for quite some time now.

    I got a message from Dan, aka @Taco-Grinder .

It sounds like Pat is finally getting a locker.

"No internet now. But you can share this with the group. I'm trying to break my rear mud flaps, no luck. We're having a good time. Nights have been cold. Pat is doing a great job of cooking. We had a guy from Colorado join us. Great guy. He came to our camp last night and gave Pat a spare.
O'ya I almost forgot. Pat is getting the locker that he always wanted. One of his spider gears in rear diff broke. His truck is at a repair shop now."

Indeed. Cheaper than the inReach Messenger with lower monthly plans. At least for the basic SOS plan.
