Speaking of hooves, don't y'all have a beach full of feral horses or something down there?

One big anxiety I have with flying is getting stuck on a plane with someone that puts their bare feet up on your seat or tosses their hair over the back on your side, planes bring out the worst in some folks. Or worse yet, getting stuck on a plane with a crazy person that forces huge delays or emergency landings

We have a couple yeah. One is just north on Assateaque island which is off Chincoteague, (VA) Its a great spot. We spend Thanksgivings up there.
And the other is just south in Corolla, NC.
You can drive on the beach in both places too, so it's an interesting mixture. One of the wild stallions in Corolla had to be put down just the other week. He broke his leg fighting.

I used to fly so much and didn't think about it twice, now unless I absolutely have to, I try to avoid it. It's awful, for the reasons you mentioned and about a thousand more. It's just riding a gross bus in the sky. Rather take the time to drive.

I mean yeah we have feral one here too that's not so interesting. Just weird hear about them living on the beach... And not like moving inland on their own

yeahhh for the most part I've avoided really bad experiences. The worst these days is the overbooking and random flight delays/cancellations but that's on the airlines. It's a shitshow especially during busy seasons

It's definitely unique. The ones on Assateaque are mainly in the protected national seashore area and inland, they pretty much rule the area and do what they want. They aren't shy either. The Corolla horses will just walk up over the dunes and through your yard haha. It's not a protected area or anything, just a beach town, but the horses are protected under an act. Can't touch em. And as you can imagine, if they weren't protected, some drunk spring break rednecks would try to ride them.

Black sand beach (lost coast?) out here in CA

It is its own unique ecosystem. So much seismic activity that it's just an awesome place to hike/camp at but really only popular for commercial fishermen.

Anyway, there are horses that live out there, hell even a Zebra that somehow someone introduced out there.

that's how it is here with peacocks. We have a big arboretum in the town next door with a bunch of them, but they aren't fenced in or anything so they just spread around and multiply. Protected by the city so you can't harass them. Not that you'd want to because those fuckers are mean

I don't have any good photos on hand, but the Assateaque horses are all feral, descendants of domesticated horses from way back. Two main herds. Some have been marked, like the two in this snap from the other year, not sure why.
Every year people get kicked walking up to them. Just because you can walk or drive by, people just think they're tame. It's weird, the false sense of security, I think because it's horses and not buffalo or something more intimidating. But a horse will wreck you.

Dont ask me about the time my sister convinced me to go with her Husband and some friends to the Shackleford Islands to camp while stranded on an island with a bunch of wild horses. The dude responsible for bringing our tent bought an "easy up" tent which promptly collapsed. So there we were, "sleeping" under the stars while being attacked by sand fleas and the threat of being trampled by a horse kept us up all night.

    Fun times.

    Nor really.

Woke up from what little sleep I got to one of the horses about 30 feet away or so, going through our supplies.

    Was pretty though nonetheless.

Its I think the only beach on the east coast that allows for a decent sunset since the island faces southwest.

We've had similar (minus the lame busted tent) in Death Valley with burros approaching camp to snoop through truck beds.

Yeah that was definitely an experience. The park service runs ferries to the island every hour until like 7, any one on the last boat over is camping until morning. I had sand where sand shouldn't be.

But the horses were actually pretty chill. The rangers told us to stay away, as they will charge and tend to bite.

    Wow.
I think this is the most ridiculous thread I've seen on here. Just, why ask about that here. If TW is your first instinct re medical advice...log out and go outside.
