85 x2 I took one off with a cheater bar. 70$ to fix.

What? You overtorqued to 170 ft-lb and broke the stud?

 

Here's my $0.02 on this.

The correct amount of torque should always be applied to the nut lugs-always (as someone previously mentioned, check your owners manual it should state the correct torque valve).

It is also important to set the correct torque value when installing new spark plugs as well (many don't believe this to be true but it is).

 

I just crank everything down until the threads strip and then I blame the manufacturer for making substandard parts.

Besides being banned, he hasn't been active since march 2015, so I doubt he's gonna answer I'm pretty sure that x2 meant he was agreeing with 85ft lbs, not multiplication by 2.

Hopefully this bit of info will help someone out whenever needed. Just a bit more specific info on a wheels nut lug tightening pattern.

 

Yep, I go to 83 lbs too. I always use a torque wrench for lug nuts.

 

What??? No discussion on lug nut torque without bringing up whether to use anti-seize or not?

Bumping because I just used this thread when checking out my new impact ratchets. Dealer def had my nuts at well over 100. I needed my 22" breaker for 2 on the front right and 1 on the front left. I took them all off and wanted to put them back on at the proper torque.

 

I have a question..
I just sold my 90 K1500. The wheel studs are the same diameter and thread pitch of our tacomas. Even the bolt pattern is the same.
The torque spec for the K1500 from the owner's manual is 115 ft lb.
Why the difference?
