I think you should hit your local trails and figure out what the capabilities, and weak points, of you and your truck are.

Assuming the truck has had all the maintenance it needs, and you’re confident in its reliability in a long trip, work towards Baja.

Do a lot more research into that trip and make some memories to last you a life time

Just don't start complaining about tracking numbers and you'll fit in fine here.

    Travel.

Mods are usually overrated and lose value the minutes the hit your doorstep.

    Travel is forever memories.

I was not fully convinced about front+transmission skid until I almost but did not quite take some of the roads that look fun. Now that I learned about exhaust pipe redirect and saw some of the roads, I paid $93 to for that mod ... stock exhaust pipes idve under the transfer case and are exposed off-road, so some people pay $600 for new pipes to install or pay $100-ish to have current pipes modified by muffler shops.

If you off-road with people who have winches you may not need a winch immediately yourself.

Choose your mods to serve gaps you identify. That approach softens the blow of a $5000 tab on day 2 of ownership by letting you think you are financially smart by paying that $5000 over the next year.
