I just bought some Permatex RTV specifically for my rear diff. I don't think it was specifically for gear oil, but the one I got was gray :notsure: I'll check tonight, I think it was the sensor safe, oil resistant gray crap. They didn't have anything on the shelf specifically for gear oil but it sounds like I should have looked elsewhere.

Meanwhile the person living on the 80th floor of the building behind this one just had their view blocked by the new building  :D

I almost said "ruined" but with a view like that, it's already ruined. :spy:

    I hate the city

Them FJ wheels I picked up... One of them had a TPMS still in it completely seized. Other three rims were bare so seller obviously knew. Looking forward to some booooooooolshite I called the seller and much to my absolute surprise dude was super chill about it. No hassling, sent me a partial to cover removal.

Got it drilled out with no damage to the wheel in about 10 mins.

It's so.... Refreshing... When you don't get a jackwad when you expect one.

I've been trying to sell some stuff that I haven't used in years. Behavior of some buyers has been reminding me that it's not worth the time and annoyance.

I had an extra window air conditioner that I'll never use and listed it for $20. I had one person who wanted it, then another three and I let them all know other(s) were ahead of them and I'd contact them if other deal(s) fall through.

One lady kept sending me messages "When will you know?" "Still available?" "You there?", but all with atrocious spelling - at least 10 messages. She messaged me separately after I removed myself from the "sale" conversation. Then I blocked her. Kind of wish I told her that I'm not going to deal with someone who behaves the way she is, but I don't think it would really be a learning experience for someone like that. In hindsight, $20 was too good of a deal and it brought out the crazies, but I just wanted it out of my basement.

I had a chainsaw that three people wanted. Setup a time with the first one and he never showed up. He apologized later, but come on man - I took time out of my day to meet you, I'm not making that mistake twice. Fortunately, the second person was thrilled and got it right away.

The stuff I sell is either in great shape because I cared for it and just don't have a use for it anymore. Or, it's to the point where it needs some routine maintenance or issues fixed and I'm selling it cheap to give myself an excuse to upgrade. Either way, I describe every good point or flaw thoroughly. Nobody ever reads it and they ask all the questions I put answers to in the posting.

I get asked why sometimes I take stuff to the transfer station instead of selling it. Here's your answer folks^^^^

Save yourself the time. Put it at the end of the driveway next to the road with free sign. No trip to the transfer station necessary. Or put it out with a $20 sign on it. If someone takes it no big deal. But make sure that you do not leave it on a good table or anything else you want to keep.

I do that sometimes - but my road gets pretty limited traffic so I'm not always successful. It's weird - the stuff I think will go quick for free doesn't. The stuff I figure I'll be bringing back inside disappears instantly.

    1. Check facebook for your towns "buy nothing" pages, put stuff up there and it goes QUICK. Scrap metal, pallets, you name it.

    2. In Old Orchard we had stuff up with a free sign for a couple days. Nobody was taking it, my dad was talking about finding someone with a truck to get rid of it, I said "hold on", made a new sign "20$ ea" and hung it up, "leave it up overnight, then try" - Sure enough, YOINK! someone "stole" them. :spy: it was like 4-5 OLD TVs, old even for back then. (New-age for Old Orchard I guess, to be fair).

Know a guy who lives in South Boston. No off-street parking so after snow storms people shovel a spot and leave something in it so nobody pulls in. If it sits long enough public works drive around picking the things up. He's gotten rid of old air conditioners, oil based paint, a recliner...
