Actually (no I'm no from Delhi), but ya know, I'm all about your rant bro!! Seriously, we can do the try to be kind thing all day long. I'm sick it. From our worthless government, to the failure of the USD dollar, to filth and scum on the streets, homeless at every corner, and every single workplace trying to find a reason to get rid of you, it's a lot, and I mean, A LOT! I am tired of sub humans, that we are supposed to bow down to, or make us feel like we should say something nice and politically correct. Done with it. Scum are scum, trash are trash, enough of people making excuses for themselves, and other people making excuses for complete strangers behavior. The guy is a douche, a scum, a low life. Let's all just realize it, act like that's what they are, and circle around good people who care about what their town, and their neighborhood should be like for their families. I'm glad you unloaded on him, I did the same thing last week to some filth roaming around our neighborhood. Enough is enough, don't let them get away with it. EVER.

Case in point,a guy who went left being told “ the trash can is right there.”

 

You didn't do anything wrong and probably handled it way better than 90% of people would have. Myself included.
With the benefit of hindsight and objectivity, you put him on the defensive. Most people are going to behave similarly to him in that situation with widely varying degrees of severity, but I doubt there would be very many times when the person would admit their mistake and fix it. At least not in that moment.
If instead, you had simply gone over, picked up the trash, and put it in the trash can yourself, you might have embarrassed him to the point of recognizing his mistake without giving him anything to be defensive about.
This would of course take way more self control than I possess but it's one of those things you can think about afterwards when you're not pissed

 

I mean, I picked up a Tacoma owner a few weeks back for trying to steal a catalytic converter . To be honest I completely missed the guy the first time I drove past him, wasn't expecting a Tacoma to be the suspect vehicle.
