Any input on Rear kings shocks with 2.5 lift

Are these kings worth the money over Bilstein 5100 with a 2.5” lift with the extended travel option for the 2.5” lift?
And are they a direct fit?

I have kings upfront and am very happy with them

 

I don't know the answer but I saw this and remembered these

 

I think I saw those at one time and they were a bit beat,
But would like like some feedback from someone running them

 

Definitely not new but nothing a rebuild can't fix.


I think maybe @Kwikvette had some on his Tacoma? Might be crazy though? There was another guy that had like 7 threads trying to install them but he was a bit special.

 

They're only for stock height and like an inch over. They claim 3 in I think, but they're pretty short shocks and running them at that height they're pretty close to topping out.

 

I had them on my 4Runner.

Unfortunately though, King 2.5's for Tacoma's are meant to be OEM replacements.

Many have posted ruining their shocks because their lengths do not allow for 'lifted' applications, nor the travel other aftermarket shocks provide.

That one guy that tried to get me banned bought them after I advised him not to.

Fast forward a few months later he mentioned in another thread how destroyed them on his 2" or 2.5" lifted truck.

 

So paying 200 extra option for a lifted truck is the same shock? And will still have problems

 

They have always had the same part numbers for 1st Gen Tacoma's and they have always been 'advertised' as being for lifted applications.

The difference between one and the other were the addition of the 'adjusters' on the reservoir.

Feel free to just call King themselves and ask them. It'd just give you a direct answer.

 

You can also just browse through some of the threads on here that all state the same thing "they're too short"

 

Yes I saw that but down south shows an option for 200 for a lifted application and didn’t know if that was a different shock.
I would not try to put on a 0-1.5 stock because it will not work,

On another note, King hit it on the head with their valving on a stock-weight vehicle.

I've run my 4Runner (3rd Gen) pretty fast over washboards, unimproved trails, and more and the ride was much better than expected; even the passenger that rode with me was impressed on many of the 'whoops'.

With that said, given the geometry of the stock setup, it'd be foolish to pay that much for a shock that'll provide such limited travel.

A real treat would be to do a shock relocation, and go with something like ADS where they will set your shocks up to your liking.

The back end when I hit wash boards or road seams on the highway the back end jumps all over the place and I have new
old man rear springs and new extended travel Bilsteins on the rear with kings upfron. It’s much better than before
Not necessarily needing them for hard off roading

 

Billies valving is a bit harsh for an empty truck with stiffer springs, especially the smallest model. They have a softer valved option that people forget about that might work well for you,

I remember he got mad because someone asked if he was installing them upside down lol then the next day he figured out he was installing them upside down lol
