    intake mods, firestone airbags, campershell, backup lights,
    used to wheel down in this river but since becoming older and more responsible take
    the Polaris there now. Found this and since not armed was hesitant to climb in and see
    what was living there and chewing on the cow bones. The nearest wolves are about 60
    miles as the crow flies so I don't think that's it. The mountain lions don't like this type
    of den.

    As @RedWings89 said they're cypress knees. Cypress trees will grow them in poorly drained soil to aerate their roots. I've seen them grow underneath other trees in the vicinity of the cypress tree and get large enough to push them over. Although I don't know that that's an evolutionary purpose so much as a "happy accident" that eliminates competition for nutrients and real estate.
