Ok gotcha, I can see how that might get frustrating in the long run. I figure if I give one a go, a Pixel sounds good. I actually had a Motorola for a minute between delayed iPhone shipments years and years ago. They seem like the do a good budget phone. At least back then.(It was a Moto G version I believe) I'll have to check em out. Now that Apple has put a stake in the mini I might as well think about looking around.

I was Android for a long time, moved to apple a year or two ago. I don’t regret the change. The consistent security updates is what sold me, versus the sporadic shit I was getting with Samsung.

I like iOS, I would like smaller hardware to continue. Once the mini is fully unsupported I might switch. (or if someone makes a small Android phone) I'm over big ass phones.

I have an 11 pro right now and it’s just right for me, not much different than my old s7. Agreed though about giant phones, if I can’t comfortably put it in my pocket I won’t buy it.

I don't dislike the workflow of iOS, it's pretty good actually. But it punishes you for owning media outside their ecosystem and it makes it excruciating to use apps for media other than ones Apple has made. I really love audiobooks and have an extensive library, you need a dedicated app for them. You can't just load one into Apple Music and expect it to work nicely because it won't, it won't remember your stopping point, won't let you switch between music and books easily... etc. Plus actually getting the media onto an iphone is awful as they want you to load through apps rather than putting the files into a directory on the phone. Same is true of remove info from an iphone, good luck getting pictures and videos off them, and when you do they use weird proprietary apple codecs.

I have a 13 pro but went to the mini. I can't use the pro one-handed, its super awkward trying to reach a thumb across it. You can do it, but its not fun, especially that top left area

Yeah this is still sort of a pain point.

for loading music I use foobar2000, which has s built in ftp server for loading music.

for syncing photos off the phone I use Dropbox, it’ll convert heic to jpg if you want .

It's kinda a dealbreaker for me because I have a simple inexpensive phone from 2017 right now with a 1tb micro sd card that holds everything I could ever want and I can load things directly into the phone or sd card directories myself and all my media captured with the phone is in industry standard forms like h264 mp4s or RAW + JPEG.... It isn't even possible for me to get 1tb on an iPhone, not that I'm using that much but come on, my phone is from 2017 and I can fit my entire 400gb audiobook library on it and still have room for porn :p

Yeah, that’s fair. Lack of an sd card blows.

Yeah some parts of it aren't great. MP3AudiobookPlayer is the go-to for listening to books you load yourself.
Loading files at random is easy, well if you have a Mac anyway, photos and videos default into your photos/camera roll but if its an odd file that could use multiple apps to open it, it just gets saved in "Files" nowadays. One example is when I send audio files recorded from my Zoom H6, I just save them in Files, (unless I choose to open them with a specific app while transferring.) But once they're in Files, I can open it and listen to it, then straight from the file, if I want, I can choose a specific app to import it to. One example is if I throw a little movie edit together, I can open an audio file from my Files, then click the little send arrow, scroll to iMovie and it imports it right into iMovie and I can cut it into what I'm editing.
Removing files as far as image and video is dead easy, again at least with a Mac, I haven't tried it with my Linux machine or Windows. As for formats, they only use HEIC for image files or other Apple codecs if you leave them set to use that, so that's user error. I have my camera set up to not use high-efficiency for example, because I want universal compatibility, so its jpg unless I shoot RAW, which is DNG+JPG. Videos you can set for what you want, with Pro-Res being the best obviously, but all professional editors handle that fine. I have mine left on 1080p 30fps right now, and they save as MOV files. When I've used the phone in a pinch for video that I really want to be customized I use FilmicPro anyway and you can pick every setting you want.
