Brake Hard Line

You can probably find a 10mm line wrench at a chain auto parts store. A must here since you already tried an open end and it didn’t move.

If it’s stuck don’t force it and break it off or strip the nut. Try this, get the line wrench on. I have these cam rope things just for things like this. Tie the rope to the wrench and put tension on it. After leaving it with tension, sometimes it’ll come loose.

If you have to resort to using heat keep it localized as possible to avoid damaging rubber parts like caliper piston seals.

On the other end of the line I had a problem before. The bubble mushroomed out and wouldn’t go into the new line. Rather than replace that part also I tried filing the mushrooming down. This took lotsa time and patience with a jewelers file. If that doesn’t work you could get a bubble flaring tool to make a new bubble and replace the nut.

These come in handy. But don’t believe their weight ratings. I’ve had the small one slip with a heavy load. The bigger one is better for heavy things.

I like this thought. But every time I do something like this I can’t help feeling like I’m about to do something I regret.

 

local parts store will have various length pre flared lines with fittings already installed . They’ll be straight but a bottle or something to make the “S” bend over will work. I would just replace mine while doing a brake job as the fittings were usually seized to the lines and would twist off anyway. These pre made lines were no more than $5 Canadian.

True, i ordered new “s” hard lines for both calipers ($5.10 each from Toyota + $24!!! For shipping)

planned on replacing it all, i just wanted to prevent pitfalls removing the old hardware

The brakes i ordered specified for my year make model 4wd 2.7 stick…

Rotors received were smaller, thinner, and the lug pattern was correct but they didn't sit flush to the hub.

Were there different size brakes as options or??

in doing further research and a measurement my rotors are 12.56”/319mm and I got something smaller but finding confusing info.

Are the parts on my truck a homebrew oem brake swap and thats why the new parts dont fit?

Retailers customer service has been bouncing me around all day and now closed.

 

Those are 4runner rear rotors.

 

Is there a way to be certain of this?

I've been advised to return the parts for a credit and I ordered a set of Powerstop rotors/pads that I confirmed match the measurements of the rotors currently on the truck so it seems that somewhere there are multiple options available. Even Advance Auto/Autozone have 2 sizes listed on their site, guess i should have done more research before buying but at least i’ll be able to return the items and get a refund.

for reference, I used PartsGeek and none of the items have a size or dimension listed in the description so I wasnt aware of the issue. Lesson learned on that…

Powerstops should be delivered by tomorrow so i’ll get it together on Saturday.

Well, you can tell they're rears because they have a parking brake drum machined into the hat. 1st and 2nd gen tacomas have 2 options, 5 and 6 lug, and they're different size.

i thought something was off with them and that lip on the inside.

 

yes. The old ones are obviously fronts since the Tacoma doesn't have rear discs.
