I posted this on the tonneau/camper shell sub and didn't get much traction so I wanted to post it here in the 2nd gen forum.

I picked up a used color matching Leer off Craigslist recently. The part number is 100R 77TCDC which is for a double cab long bed but everything I read insisted AC and DC long bed shells are the same fitment around the cab area. The shell lines match up pretty well but the top section comes towards the cab and is really close and looks a little off. My big concern here is the moment I take this off-road that it will start rubbing my cab and ruining my paint. The shell is pushed pretty far towards the back of the truck as it sits in these photos.

Can someone with a 2nd gen double cab long bed and a Leer 100R please post a photo of this area for comparison?

If you were able to raise the cap 1/4 inch what would happen?

Looks like you may be into some glass work to reprofile that front near the cab roof.

I just scrolled around on google, that gap don’t look right. Didn’t find an exact picture at the same angles as yours but it’s easy to tell that they are no where near that tight. You will for sure do damage off road hell it might hit on road if you hit a big enough bump. I can’t say for sure but based off the canopy profile I’d almost bet the back of the cab between the ac and dc is different.

There's no way Leer designed it to fit like this.

Call Leer up as their fitment guide lists a 77TC for access cab and the 77TCDC for DC.
Do you still have the plastic side pieces under there height wise?
Is the front lip lined up with the bed front or too far forward? Tailgate window closure would be off if so.
    That's all I got as I have a DCSB.

You read wrong. Access cabs and double cabs have a different profile back there. I've owned multiple leer canopies used and brand new(100r/100xl/100xq) and both AC and DC tacomas. The back window and cab is not the same. Ive spoken with the leer dealer about this at length when I ordered new and also when I was looking for used..

The rear profile of the AC and DC are NOT the same. Not sure where that came from.

also open this up to Century caps as well same builds, not my pic just one for sale on FB in a tacoma group. but that line looks completely different. and I don't own a access cab long box.

are we sure its not for a single cab?

After looking at some more photos I think I can see the difference, the DC rear glass portion seems to buldge out a little more where the AC is more flat. Have you ever run a DCLB cap on an AC? I don't mind it looking slightly goofy but I'm worried I don't have enough clearance once my bed starts wiggling and flexing once I take this thing onto a dirt road for the first time.

I would still like to see some DCLB with Leer caps if anyone has this combo and could take some photos around the cab/cap area.

I've ran a AC cap on a DCLB, it wasn't terrible but you could tell it wasn't a perfect match.

I'll get pics of my 100xq tomorrow if it helps any..

Look at the overhang on the sides on all the pictures.....OP's looks way off compared to the others. Could it be a 3rd gen cap??? Pictures of the rear lift gate would clarify that.

Look how it's bulged out away from the bed near the middle. None of the other pics are like that.

Just throwing mud at the wall to see if it sticks.

Thanks guys these photos help a ton although now I have no idea what to think about mine lol the cab lines are way different.

I don't think a 3rd Gen shell would fit at all right?

Also, a picture of the liftgate would help identify if it is for a 3rd gen or not.

Here is an '06 with a Leer shell. It is a great fit and for the 2nd gens the AC and the DBL cab have the same rear cab profile. The single cab is different. My experience the shell basically aligns itself with a little forward and aft to adjust with. I bought mine second hand, pulled up next to a DBL cab, picked it up and set it on my AC. Looks like that is not a correct year or model fit.

It came off a 2015 DCLB. It has some wear marks on the 2 areas of the shell that extend close to the cab so it definitely rubbed his cab or someone else who owned it prior.

I'll snap one tomorrow in the daylight, besides the cap being pushed towards the back it does sit pretty flush with my tailgate

Thank you for the photos! This kind of stuff confuses the hell out of me when other people in the thread say the opposite. Would you mind posting the model number that is printed on your nameplate?

    Edit:

Here is a photo of my nameplate
    20230304_130445.jpg

I pulled up the latest fitment chart from 2022 and this definitely would not come close to any of the third gen part numbers

Now, really confused!!!! Something really seems off now.......

This chart shows your model as being for a DOUBLE CAB SHORT BED??????? Look at the left column under "TACOMA"

Why don't you just call leer and give them the ID number?
