Remote start

When I got my new truck a few weeks ago sales guy said my truck wasn’t equipped with a remote start but I saw on here someone said to press the lock button 3 times holding it down on the third time and guess what….IT WORKED!!!

 

It can also be done through the app on your phone. Shuts off in 10 minutes or when you open the door.

 

yeah I have the app too. I find that pretty cool. But I like that it has factory remote start too.

 

Do you pay for the Toyota service or is it installed permanently? I hear the service is $15/month?

 

the remote start function from the keyfob is installed permanently (mostly the push to start models). the ability to start from the app on your phone is about $8/month last i read. it could have gone up.

 

Oh I see. I know you can have buy a kit online for less than 200 to not pay for the service but then again I don't like the fact it shuts off after the door is open

 

most of those kits do the same thing... just remote starting from the keyfob. some have addon options to start from an app too, but still need to pay for that service. i recall 12voltsolutions has something where you can get the first year on them, but you would have to pay afterwards. in the end, its all the same cause i believe you would still need some kind of cellular service to send the start signals to the vehicle.

 

But you wouldn't have to pay for the phone service/app if you plan to just use the fob, correct?

 

correct. that same goes for the OEM toyota remote start. you don't need the pay for the service to use the keyfob... just need to be within range of your vehicle.

Correct. For my ‘21, I only pay in the winter months when I use the app. Otherwise the fob always works.

 

Yep. My salesman gave me the I “could only have them install one otherwise Id void the warranty” blah blah blah. Offered to have it installed for $499 . Luckily I was fairly certain it would already work off the fob . When I picked it up and they were going over the trucks features, I tried remote starting and it absolutely worked .
Salesman said “must be something new”.

2020 and up Tacomas have had it, so I wouldn’t exactly call that ‘new’ lol. WTF salespeople, know your F’n product and stop embarrassing yourselves . You are giving out expensive misinformation.
