I don’t think I said it can’t tow anything. I said I don’t want one for my towing needs.
The passion for these little engines is crazy. You might think I called your children ugly or something.

For what it’s worth. I will take one of the new Toyota turbo engines over anything made by Jeep or GM. :)

if the colorado had a 6 foot bed option, i'd give it a look. if it had an access cab and a 6 foot bed option, i'd really look at the value of my tacoma and how much i could sell it for.

i do not like changing vehicles and for now i'll continue as-is but, paying attention to what others are offering.

Did you attempt to put a rear facing car seat in a double cab? I've seen it done with the passenger seat the whole way forward or in the the rear center seat. Needless to say, neither option is ideal or particularly safe. My second is on the way and my 02 access cab isn't going to cut it for 2 kids considering I had to take the front passenger seat out to fit 1 rear facing seat. The wife wasn't particularly pleased sitting in the driver side rear seat. So, I'm hoping for at least 6" on the 4th gen.

This isn’t unique to the 3.6, and is correctable like any other power train. Toyota shipped many third gens for over a year with leaking rear diffs, and still ship with that asinine automatic transmission. Don’t even get me started on their frames.

I enjoy you attempting to move the goal posts again from your previous comments.

My youngest had already moved to a front facing car seat when I got the Tacoma. I think a rear facing would fit in a double cab though. I had one in a WRX and I don’t think the Tacoma’s back seat is smaller than that.

What about all of the plastic oil cooler and filter housing leaks with the Jeeps? That seems pretty well known.

Not as common on the newest generation, and most common culprit anymore is folks (dealers included) not reading the manual on how to not over torque a plastic housing that connects to the engine. I don’t love that design, but it’s also fairly simple not to screw up.

Wait until folks start jacking up the new plastic oil pans that autos are using to reduce weight. That’ll be a time.

I just heard from my inside man, who will remain classified that Toyota is going to release some big news tomorrow. Something along the lines of “April Fools! We’re sticking with the turd gen motor and transmission”

I just googled 3.6 pentastar issues and this was the first thing that came up:

"Fiat Chrysler's Pentastar 3.6L V6 engines allegedly experience contamination of the engine oil, according to a class action lawsuit that claims defects lead to engine failure. The Pentastar V6 problems include hesitation, misfires, surges, ticking, bucking, loss of power and, ultimately, engine failure."

I didn't do much research into it, but that took me 2 seconds.

The company I used to work for I had driven a ram promaster with the 3.6 and to be honest, it sucked to keep things simple.

I'm sure it's much worse than the 3.5 in the tacoma.

This is coming from someone who owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. I like the older ones. Newer, not so much.

Consider me shocked that an auto hides a problem until they file a TSB or recall for something because of a class action. I tend not to hold vehicles past warranty because they all praise the almighty dollar over safety or reliability.

Recently scrapped a 1st Gen bc it wasn’t filed for a frame replacement within the window by the previous owner and corporate Toyota had a hard line on it.

I’d like an LS-swapped LJ in my future.

I don’t believe it. Someone here told us:
The Pentastar 3.6 has been in production for quite some time now and beingproblematic isn’t one of its features.

Hence the fact I'm on the list for a GR Corolla. :)

I know people who have Pentastar 3.6 vehicles and have had issues with them. They also have over 100k over them. The 3.6 could be a good engine if compared to Chrysler motors from the same era. Many police departments had and may still have vehicles running around with those engines. Now they have probably seen plenty of maintenance to keep them running.

Considering the sheer volume of them on the road in Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep platforms, it isn’t.

Not like they issues service bulletins on 30 years worth of bad steel.

My 3.6 has 60k on it without any issue, and her 2.0T Cherokee had 85k before we traded it in without issue. He’s just butthurt because he made stupid posts about turbocharged applications and got called out.
