Spurprise sneak peek fresh off the stand. Heading to NC tomorrow AM and the LBS still hasn’t been able to rebuild my rear WAO/hydra wheel so she’s set up with the stock rear wheel/tire for now.

Proper in use/proper lighting pics to follow.

With da coil! Looks like a ripper. Transition makes super fun bikes, I'd definitely be gettin myself in trouble with that or a Smuggler. I wanted the new Patrol but the Giga came up on a deal first this time.

Guys, I'm having crazy thoughts...I am considering adding an enduro bike (probably selling my stache to save space). I'm in between the Spec Stumpjumper Evo Elite Alloy which seems like an awesome deal with Fox Factory suspension. The other option is the Transition Spire Carbon GX TRP. The Spire is about $300 more, is carbon and has Rockshox Zeb/Super Deluxe ultimate.

Now I know the bikes aren't exactly in the same category but this is my rationale. The Stumpy Evo is a little more versatile with it's angle adjust headset and slightly lower travel. I can use it on some of the more aggressive trails closer to me, at the bike park, in the national forest, and at enduro races.

The Spire would be a strictly bike park and enduro race bike. I think it would compliment my Ripley better but would also likely be sitting in the basement more often since we only have like 1, maybe 2 trail networks within an hour, worthy of the spire.

I'm leaning towards the stumpy since I can ride it more but am slightly worried it would overlap too much with my ripley

What do you all have to say?

I think you're thinking rationally about riding more with the stumpy, but I think you trying to maintain a 2-bike stable, then trying to buy a do everything bike doesn't make sense to me.

For that reason, and as a biased Transition owner ;), I'd say the Spire makes more sense to me in your current state. If you were planning to ditch the Ripley as well, the Stumpy would make more sense.

@Gunshot-6A kinda just said what I was thinking. Also being somewhat biased based on my previous addition personally, I'd say go Spire.

While I think there is enough gap between the EVO and the Ripley to be two distinctly different bikes (metaphorically), I also think that both could be used for similar purposes. I don't see the Ripley and Spire crosspollinating as easily. Which to me is much more the point of a multi bike stable.

pretty sure @BalutTaco just got an evo.

but i agree with everyone else, the evo is more of a do it all bike and sounds like your looking for more of a gap.

some guys here in colorado springs ride their spire everywhere, but there are also more up and down options around here than pure xc style trails.

There's a stiffness factor too but I didn't notice it going from GX to XO1

Ahh. Pic answered my concern about the bed mat clearence.
Follow up question: I see the rail has three slots, could the mounts be installed to be angled using slot 1&2 or 1&3? For handle bar clearence between bikes.

It should be able to, they are T-Slot nuts in the rails so they slide to wherever.

As a Spire owner that rides it everywhere you already know my vote. Now that I live in AZ, I do mostly trail riding and the Spire is more versatile than you think. The only place it struggles is in really tight, technical flat/climbing sections due to the wheelbase and low BB. I look at it as it makes me become a better rider in those scenarios. It’s a big bike, but it doesn’t feel unwieldy at all. No regrets, I love my Spire, and it’s my only bike.
