    Hey all,

New here! Have a '23 taco DCLB on the way (scheduled to arrive in a month). Trying to sort out some initial mods. I know I want to put a cap on it and have been leaning towards the soft topper for camping + ease of roll back for carrying big stuff & bikes.

Anyone have experience buy a used soft topper from a non-taco owner? There's one listed near me that the owner had on a long bed chevy canyon and, given the bed dimensions are almost identical, seems like it should fit a Taco, just not 100% sure. Would be nice to save an easy 1000 bucks buying used

    Thanks!

It was said that the GFC wedge campers have nearly identical structure for all the midsize trucks. So, I would believe that the ST is similar. The problem that you are going to run into are that the clamps are going to be different. You may spend that saving on buying the proper clamps.

I would also be conscious of the height difference. Case in point, the 2nd gen to 3rd gen softoppers don't fit the other gen due to the difference in bed sides to top of cab height.

I highly doubt that the Canyon topper would fit well...

Ahh the height concern is a great point, hadn't thought of that! Thanks! Worth it to just get it new then
And I definitely meant GMC not chevy

Buying new is great, because you won't have condition issues... but I'd keep an eye on the used market. They regularly pop up for sub $500.

Definitely going to keep an eye on used, unfortunately it is generally slimmer pickings up here in Canada...
Also, I've seen reference to a good 3rd brake light on other threads (I think from one of your posts @tonered)...do you guys have a link for it?

Used STs seem to be a great value. They hold up very well.

Yessir. In my build thread. Gimme a minute.

It was in my ST summary post:

    Doesn't really matter there. Hahaha!

GMC shoulda been axed decades ago. But, not much that GM does makes any sense.

I am using the Softopper off of my old (gen 2) Frontier on my 22 Tacoma. The issue is most likely not the length, it will be the height. Mine sits up a littler higher now, though it fits fine front to back and side to side. It is still pretty watertight though and it doesn’t look too bad. And a bonus of a little extra headroom when I’m camping. So depending on how cheap you can get it one it may work. Will just need the right clamps.
