I’d be concerned about the new GM transmissions. I had a 2014 Sierra and it was great. But I’ve had several friends have GM transmissions go out as early as 25k in the newer GM trucks, one was a 2019. Another guy I know has three transmission failures on the same Silverado in a short period of time and finally used the lemon law to get his money back. I’d recommend the extended warranty. And I come from a GM family.

The 2JZ-GTE is considered one of the greatest turbo charged engines ever produced by any manufacturer.

It was a fantastic and overbuilt engine, but it came out 30 years ago.
I put my foot in my mouth forgetting they just came out with the GR Corolla which is a pretty bonkers 3 cylinder.

I think the best thing about the 2.4L will be the low down torque. The Tacoma might not get much faster, but it will feel like it and be much better at towing. It'll probably be a night and day difference in how it feels to drive.

My order is still way out, and it’s zero commitment. I may have to swap to a full-size anyways, and it kills me that the new Tundra is so hideous. I should have snagged one of the outgoing models.

The highlander drives great with the 2.4 I Didn't think I'd like it, but its a hoot to drive.

Big thing they did was a sharper transaxle. The 8 speed V6 was awful, and relatively unreliable, this new highlander (9 speed? 10?) is much more crisp and enjoyable to drive.

Transmission choice is going to be critical, Toyota needs to make sure its good this go round.

No you won't, the tundra does not require it so the Tacoma won't either

Yup. A shop gave me a good quote to fix it. Just haven’t got motivated to fix it. I rather spend money on some much needed armor.

Are we talking about these engines from the 2023 Highlander? Nothing seems too impressive here. 265 HP at 6000 RPM. 8 speed auto with the turbo and a CVT with the Hybrid.

TRD: Lift, Exhaust, Air Intake, Skid Plate & "Beadlock" wheels. Batman sticker. 255/85R16 Toyo MTs. Debadged. H9s.
Mentioned previously: Toyota sells more MT Tacos than the total number of Sequoias of any flavour. They are also the largest shareholder in Aisin..who make the MT for the Wrangler and Gladiator. Seems like it would be worth building a few dozen thousand a year.

My guess is it will be an option with the T24A engine. Hopefully, by Tuesday we’ll know for sure.

My dealer in BC (Canada) had no issues getting me a 2022 exactly as I requested. Toyota didn’t build a lot of black access cabs in Off-road trim with manual transmissions, so the chances that one was coincidentally “allocated” to a small dealer in rural Canada seem slim.

    I can’t speak for Canada.

Absolutely not how it works stateside.

I kept a spreadsheet of about 18 dealers within 1,000 mile radius that did not have markups or addons. I would call or text my contacts at each dealer on allocation days to see what they were allocated. I did not trust that anyone would actually call me back if I didn’t strike first. Eventually, I too got exactly what I was looking for.

45 more torque lower in the rpm band is a solid upgrade. The 2.5 would possibly replace the current 2.7 which makes worse numbers as well. The hybrid version would probably only come on the 2.4 as a performance upgrade like, like the the I force max.
