Hello! Long time lurker on this site, first time poster. I've got a gen 3 taco and have been looking for a used topper to build out a camping setup. Found a used snugtop topper close to me and the dude is offering it for $3600, said he bought it new for $4400. This seems pretty expensive to me but I also don't have much experience with topper costs. What do you guys think, is this a deal or should I leave it and keep searching?

The resale of the toppers seems like it has exploded over the years. That said; on an item in this price range, $800 off new isn't enough for me to mess with the used market (unless I needed sooner and the new had long lead times).
I am not sure what the Snug's new price is or what my Ranch new price is, BUT, I paid $2,200 for my use Ranch cab high (with ALL the options, carpet, windoors, LED lights, etc etc) last year.
Not easy to quantify, but in my mind, I paid much less for the topper. I agreed to his asking price and negotiated the DECKED system down to a ridiculous price, since the seller had the truck stored offsite and selling it all off in one transaction was a huge time saver for him.

You could call him and get a feel for how much he wants to deal,,, if he doesn't all, I'd move on and not waste each other's time. Again look at options it has, they can really run up the price, or seller could not have any, and using an optioned-out topper to move his resale price up.

Call a few dealers and get a price on a new topper. I did some inquires, and a NEW cap was cheaper than $3600.

To the OP, model and options can make the topper vary in price. Is it a model with opening side windows? Is the "Sportman's" package where it can support up to 500 pounds. Does it have a folding down front window where you can clean your truck back window? Does it have the pro locks? Etc. If it is optioned out, yes a new one can hit that number. Ask for all the details. Get a quote for a new one from a dealer. Then negotiate accordingly.

Thanks for the advice. Options were pretty minimal and he's selling the whole truck with the topper. I asked just about the topper. He didn't want to negotiate because he thinks he can sell the two together for $40,000 no problem. I'll keep looking...

He may be calling you later, unless he finds the right buyer.

Found mine on craigslist for $1800 last fall. Front window folds down. Looks at a local dealer and he said the Rebel series starts at $3200 and 6-8 week wait for delivery. Mine included clamps and has the lid carpeted. 1676B072-4C2C-496F-8836-157AABFB4975.jpg

So jealous, this is what I need to find. I found a great one for $2000 with the fold down window and windoors but it was already sold within 3 hours of being posted. Guess I just need to be quicker... the search continues
