Hi, I have a lifted 2013 Tacoma TRD and noticed a rattling noise coming from underneath the vehicle recently. I looked underneath and didn't see anything lose or out of the ordinary. It doesn't make any noise while idling...only after reaching about 30mph and it is inconsistent. Any ideas?

Welcome to Tacoma World. Playing “guess the noise” over the internet is difficult. Any more info you can give us to help? Any idea from what area of the truck it’s coming from - front/back/left/right? What’s it sound like?

With the truck cold crawl under it and check your heat shields from front to back. Odds are it's a catalytic convertor heat shield that's had a clamp or bolt rust out.

I checked the cat and heat shields when under and everything looked ok. It is a rattling sound that comes and goes from basically the middle of the truck from the best that I can tell.

Same spot my 2010 was doing it several years ago, it was the shield. The top half was loose on mine..Toyota just took it out of the vehicle.

Ok, I will look again tomorrow morning. It shouldn't hurt anything to drive it in the meantime before fixing it then. Thanks to all.

Is that what it was? My 2016 just started making this rattling noise .. i only hear it occasionally but most times its when i take off from a stop or accelerate on a incline. I am hoping it's just a loose heat shield

I bet it is. My CC was replaced under warranty and it probably started the rattle about 5 years later come to think about it. Pretty simple to just nix it

Did you ever figure yours out? My 22 has a rattle under acceleration or if it’s under a little load going up hill

Mine was the heat shield being loose due to bolts rusting and one missing. I got new bolts/nuts and tightened it all back up and no more rattling sound
