There are about 50 alerts and stickers reminding people to do that. On the dishwasher and the disposal. It’s gotta be the most bonehead possible mistake anyone can make nowdays.

Years ago a fellow comes in the shop asking about installing an electric water heater.

I tell him the most important thing is to "make sure the heater is full before turning on the power or the elements will burn out immediately".

He comes back the next week to tell me he got it in -- but had to change the elements out...

Rusty: Did you turn on the power before it was full?
Dummy: Well .... it was ... about half full... (aka - empty)
R: Didn't I tell you that would happen?
    D: Yes
R: Didn't the heater have a sticker over the wiring box saying that?
    D: Yes
    R: Why???
D: We were in a hurry for the hot water...
R: How did that work out for you? -- Get out of my shop.

Wife wanted to brighten up around the fireplace so we spent the weekend prepping and painting bookcase. Turned out pretty good.

Yesterday I dug out a century plant that had bloomed in our front yard. I must have forgot that I'm highly allergic to the sap during the process. However, I was reminded with a full blown rash on my arms and legs this morning. :facepalm:At least I had fun with the stihl chainsaw and wood maul. :sawzall:

Today I took advantage of the 79 degree afternoon to clean our ac coils. I got this Nu-Calgon stuff from Amazon last year and had just enough left over for this year. The stuff works awesome, but it stinks something fierce. :puke:

Finally fixed the garbage disposal under the sink. It’s been jammed for several days and I finally had time to take it apart.

is it some weird optical illusion and the tv fits in that cabinet on an articulating mount or does it just stay where it is ?

It just looks like that, it is on a swivel mounted to the wall. Those pictures are also 6 or 7 years apart. I forgot to take on before we started

Looking for help on this back porch project again. Rails and railings have been sorted out. This is an overhung porch and we suspect there’s steel beams from the basement extending out into the floor of the porch and for those reasons the prior builder put down plywood sheeting. To “weather proof” the system and laid down fiberglass. Well years later and now I own it and the paint on top of fiberglass is a mess and a few spots have been worn through completely. Fiberglass is totally new to me. Can I just lay new cloth in the spots I cut out, resin those areas and paint again? Any reason to apply resin all over the porch again? The fiberglass isn’t well adhered to the ply underneath but I would think to get it to adhere again I would need all new cloth and resin? Any help appreciated!

That fibreglass looks like it's not bonded to the substrate. Probably used polyester resin. If you want permenant use epoxy resin. Much more expensive but lasts. That stuff looks like it will peel up nicely before you do it right.

Definitely not bonded to the substrate. I can't just reapply epoxy resin now because the fiberglass cloth/mesh won't take more resin and wont seep thru to bind to the substrate correct? I really didn't want to pull it all up and start again haha. This is a total project house and so I am trying to be strategic and fix what's live-able for the time while tackling other large projects.

I think the purpose was to make the plywood substrate waterproof if the fiberglass was covering the floor? Can't be sure on the previous guys intention but that's my guess. I've never seen it before. I will take a full porch photo to better show the setup tonight.

Seems like a waste of time to repair that, in my opinion. What is under it dirt?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Me either. I would just replace it all. That underlayment looks kind of funky.
