My trucks been undercoated every other year, with the spare tire in place. Dropped the spare for the first time to find this untreated bracket completely toast. I'd say its working! the rest of the truck is solid.IMG_0311.jpg

I always love when non rust belt folks look at undercoated trucks like they're carrying the plague or something. "it's so messy! I'd never wanna work on that." Yes, but it's either that or be orange dust. Pick your poison in a salt state.

What did you use for an undercoat? It looks like it could be Woolwax or NHOU, but I'd have expected it to gather more dirt

Also curious what you used. Looks like it worked well.

X3 on the under coat. I'm pulling my bed off soon and tackling the whole frame.

I've used either Fluid Film or Woolwax since April 2014 when I brought my truck home. Not a spot of rust anywhere including the suspension components and the factory frame decals are still intact. Connecticut truck, a state that uses a 23% magnesium chloride brine to treat roads

    The undercoating is WoolWax.
This is WoolWax although I may have used fluid film a few times as well. I think they're essentially the same.

This is Wool Wax. I pressure wash it maybe once every other week in the winter. There's definitely a good 1/4inch of dirt embedded in the coating in certain areas lmao.

yeah I'm in the white mountains in NH. I've lost my last few vehicles to rust so I'm trying to save this one lol. Had the frame sprayed inside and out, and then installed the frame plugs from the second gens to keep out the majority of the salt.

Was gonna say yours looked awfully clean haha. Even with regular rinsing mine looks like it just went through a mud bog. I'll still take it over being orange and rotten though

hell yeah, I also pulled off my fender flares and liners before I got it sprayed, to get the back side of the fenders. I had some rust starting underneath the flares that I soaked in the good stuff before putting them back on. Would recommend :benchpress:

Definitely not a bad idea! I drilled a couple holes in my flares to do the same, then just plugged them up. I try to keep mine out of the salt and park it most of winter, but I'll still always undercoat anything I own while I live in the salt hell of NE :p

Where did you buy the frame plugs? And why do you pressure wash every other week? Seems like that would help to remove the under coating.

If you're willing to have your frame be a little ugly toilet ring wax works great to plug up those holes. Just cut sections to fit and squish it in there.

It's not pretty, but it's cheap and lasts pretty much forever

No prob haha, always happy to see people willing to try it. Way better than having a slurry of salt and mud in there

My vote for the #1 use of an alternate product for our trucks.

Been having my truck done with nhou by my friend at northeast rustproofing and man does that stuff creep into everything. I think thats the biggest advantage it has. It probably would have protected that crossmember without even spraying directly on it. Either way the salt is ridiculous now a days! Protect your shit!
