CLEAN head unit recommendations

Hey all! Done with the 2017 Entune and going to jump into Wireless CarPlay with some kinda aftermarket stereo. Recommendations for an aftermarket head unit that has wireless CarPlay, retains all of the factory functionality like steering wheel controls, vehicle settings and hands free cell phone integration that looks CLEAN and adult, not like a 1990’s hooptie? Really want CarPlay but have to have something that looks and acts stock. Yes I’ve searched but honestly there is just TOO MUCH information on the forums to make any sense of what is and is not a good unit and what does and does not work. Thank you all in advance!

I think upgrading to a 2020+ OEM head-unit is going to be your best bet.

 

What is your budget? You can get Joying for $400 or well known brands that are in $1200-1500 range.

Chinese or other, off brand but occasional quality issues from what I’ve read.

 

Thank you. I was looking at a Sony last night but I didn’t pull the trigger. I want quality myself.but I dont know what that is today. Back into the day that was alpine, eclipse, some pioneer.

 

I figured basing my choice of stereo on lyrics from an Eazy-E song wasn’t the best route as well.

 

Go to Crutchfield.com or call, they have excellent customer service and can get you what you need and possibly some other goodies to. That's a pretty good budget and I would definitely get new speakers. Just the speakers alone make a world of difference.

 

That’s a good one. But honestly I have no clue what’s good these days. Shit I still have my old zapco amps from the 90’s

The CarPlay on that head unit is horrible. It doesn’t turn down audio for maps directions and stuff, so when maps kicks in, it’s a garbled mess. After having a good aftermarket head unit (or practically any other OEM CarPlay unit from any other make), the Toyota version is flaming garbage and not worth swapping to. I wanted to love it, but it sucks.
