No the ribeye was the vehicle it's in. A competition vehicle gets a different level of build, care and parts than a rec wheeler.

@Snowy did you mention something about venting your PS resi a while back? My PSC came with a threaded hole in the cap and a push fitting to screw in. Not sure if their $85 vent is worth it or just throw a fuel filter or something on it.

I run the PSC pressure check valve to reduce cavitation at high RPM. I noticed a marked improvement on my most recent trip out with it compared to venting to atmosphere

Nice. This one? Looks like it keeps a constant pressure to keep dust out, too.

Yep, that’s the one. There’s a Donaldson filter/check valve that works too but I wanted to hit the easy button and just have it work

Got the same things, works, threads in perfectly. Just make sure that hard plastic tubing they provide to you is cut square to get a good seal on that push fitting. Dont know if it matters, but thats the highest point in my system.

I’ll have the resi a couple inches from the hood, not sure if this needs to be higher or just right there with it. Looked like they mounted at the same height in a picture online and the tube might have even gone lower.

edit: here’s the pic but there’s no tube haha

An interesting post I read from a company named Radial Dynamics. I’ve never heard of them, but good info for those setting up steering and worried about packaging -

“One of the most common questions I have received lately is related to the install height of a reservoir relative to the steering pump. Internet wisdom, and good practice, dictates installing the reservoir where it will be above the elevation of the pump. However, in the real world, this is not always practical to achieve and not completely necessary. I'll explain why...

The real reason we want to install the reservoir higher than the pump is to increase the absolute oil pressure at the pump inlet which helps flood the internal pump cavities during operation and reduces cavitation. Simply increasing the height of the oil level above the pump increases pump inlet pressure by roughly 0.4 PSI per foot of elevation. This is referred to as head pressure and we always want it to be positive rather than negative (under vacuum) at the pump inlet.

Now let's look at the real world scenarios where installing the reservoir high might mean poking through the hood and being exposed to rollover damage. Not only that, but toss in a steep hillclimb or sidehill and all of your careful planning of installation heights between the two is thrown out the window anyways. So what now?

The issue of head pressure can be overcome by relying on thermal expansion of the fluid and pressure valves to build a moderate amount of pressure in the reservoir. Radial Dynamics reservoirs use 10 PSI pressure caps so if the reservoir is perfectly level with the pump, the 10 PSI buildup is effectively equivalent to a 25' elevation gain. Yes, 25 feet! Even the PSC remote reservoir valves build up to 6 PSI which is equivalent to roughly 15' elevation gain.

This means you can install your pressurized reservoir level or even a hair below the elevation of your pump and still be significantly better off than using a vented reservoir installed a foot above the pump. So if you are building a tightly-packaged buggy and worry about your reservoir not being installed high enough, fear not and proceed with confidence (as long as you have the right reservoir )
