First Time Taco Owners

Hi all. New to the group, nice to see I can be my 4x2 self here. Just purchased my first Taco Sport TRD 4x2. I love it! I’m not looking to overland just thinking about getting a bed tent and changing the wheels. Just curious what y’all added? Thanks for your input.

While TRD Offroad's are merely good looking trucks, TRD Sports are freaking gorgeous. Welcome aboard!

 

Get some bigger / beefier tires and suddenly the stock wheels start to look pretty nice.

 

A good set of fog lights are a nice upgrade over the stock garbage.

Other swapping out to the a/t tires I had bought for my tundra, just seat covers and a bed mat. when I ordered the truck I requested everything else I wanted in it.

I did blackout for exterior and interior. I’m trying to blackout my front emblem without changing to the Tacoma Grille. Practicing with matte black decal cover, want to cover the chrome Toyota emblems on my stock wheels. Definitely want to change the head/tail/ fog lights. Just a little bit at a time. Same boat as you a few years back, as my 19 was the first Tacoma I've owned too. After a ton of reading, I opted to go with armor → lift → CMC → Wheels/Tires in that order for mod priority. Suffice it to say but I've added more since but totally personal preference.

 

Can anyone help me understand what armor is or find some reading on it? Gorgeous, gorgeous truck!

 

Welcome! Add a bed mat. Best add ever. Everything else? Make it yours.

 

Armour is simply skid plates and sliders. You "armour" something when you want to protect it from harm, like a big old rock.

 

This forum, under "Tacoma Garage". Skid plates cover the engine/transmission/transfercase/differential/gastank from scrapes/punctures going over rocks. Sliders protect the outer body/door panels from falling on rocks as they are not designed to take such loads ... sliders bolt into the frame to preserve those body panels.

All add weight, so many minimize the use of it if they do not rock crawl. But many will still at least get an engine skid plate to just in case they run into a rock at the mall. Steel is 2x the weight of aluminum, but you can sledgehammer out a dent in steel unlike aluminum.

This is of course just a very superficial statement of the situation. Read that forum for extensive knowledge.
