Not sure what you mean by that.

To install new pads, you need to push the pistons in. That involves either allowing fluid to drain out of the caliper, or pushing fluid up into the master cylinder (not the preferred option). Either way, air can/does get introduced into the hydraulic system, which requires the system to be bled.

I always heard that the drilled and slotted rotors were that way to help with cooling which helps with the performance of the brakes but who knows how much it actually helps.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Lesson to all, don’t bluff your buddy who has money to buy your FJ40, unless you’re prepared to really let it go.

With sadness, I regret to say I am no longer the owner of this amazing beast of a yota. WTF is wrong with me… I can’t believe I did that.

Sam, if you read this I am gonna steal it back out of your driveway one day lol

I had a Volvo XC90 that was notoriously loud doing this.

The search for a new grill has come to an end.

It was not pre-assembled. While I would have liked the convenience and time saving of it being assembled, I am very glad that it was not. I know that it was done properly and nothing was over/under torqued or stripped. Not sure what time I started, but it was not ready in time for dinner. So burgers have been postponed until tonight.

I know the brake shops aren't doing the process, so I'm not sure how necessary it is. That said, you are essentially heating up the pads and likely bringing the fluid close to boiling temp. It seems like that process would be better to do on the old fluid so that you don't boil the new fluid.

Bedding the pads is an important step to to with brand new brake pads. I didn't watch the video, but what I read was pretty much what I do. Either way, with that little amount of stopping, your fluid will be nowhere near close to boiling - unless it is full of water.

As I said, new fluid will have a much higher boiling point than old the fluid in your brake system. Brake fluid is hygroscopic - it absorbs water. Water, while not compressible, boils and steam is compressible, causing weak braking.

You will hurt or wear out the new fluid by using it to bed the new pads.

For the record, I bleed my brakes every 15,000 miles. This is especially important to do if you go through water crossings off road.

    Yeah....I need to do it....

I checked the pads when I rotated the tires over the weekend. Plenty of life left in them, so I think I'm going to start with replacing the front lines with the braided steel ones and flushing the fluid.

I have all the parts, tools and fluid. I just need to do it.

Speedbleeders are a great thing to add. They replace the bleeder screws, and allow for one-person brake bleeding. I've had them for several years, and they are great. Not too expensive, and well worth it.

Who does all use for alignment? Greer isn't doing it at that moment and that would normally be my go to

Lifetime alignment at Firestone. They aren't the best, but they usually are pretty good.

a lot of bad ass stuff
I too have the lifetime alignment at Firestone. Not the best if you are lifted but it’s what I use to do when I went off-roading on a regular basis till I could I get the truck to a better shop if needed. (I had the numbers of how Greer had me sitting and I would show that to Firestone. They got it pretty close when they said they couldn’t)

Depending on what Firestone you go to, they can be great or crap. I have two near me by the Mall of Georgia and the one on Buford Drive always gets me pretty close to where I want to be. The other one is a waste of time if you have a lift.

I called AAC Garage who does alot of toyota stuff and they told me they don't do their alignments in house but gave me this contact. https://fastlaneimportautorepair.com/

They only work on imports and I saw a fair amount of lifted toyotas there plus I believe the owner or manager drives a lifted Lexus. They did mine and my numbers I are pretty good in my opinion. My caster is over 4. I have JBA uca btw.

They aren't the cheapest around but I'm please with their work.

Does your wheel return to center/straight after a turn by itself? 4* seems like a lot of caster to me.

Lol we've had this convo before. No issues with returning to center on turns. I remember last time you asked me this I never thought about it so I wasn't sure if it did it fine or if it was be subconsciously doing it so on my way home that night I made a conscious effort to see how it responded. It's acted normal and fine as any other stock vehicle. Compared it to my wife's 4runner. So long story short, no issues.

well, I retire from the Army this year. looks like I will be returning to Georgia when I get out. Haven't lived in Georgia since joining. Probably getting a job at Robins Airforce Base. should hear back about the job in a few days. Looking forward to not paying over $4 a gallon for gas and spending dumb money on everything like up here in Washington. Plus i get tot be closer to family.
