Engine Hesitation 2020 tacoma trd sport

It’s called torque converter shudder. Very common in some newer vehicles. And no, a tune is not a waste of money.

 

Not normal at all my 2020 doesn't do this. Maybe you need the ECU transmission update from the dealer I don't think I have the update but mine doesn't have issues.

My 22 has done it from the beginning. The KDMAX tune helped but did not solve it 100%, what it did do was make the truck 100% more enjoyable to drive….People have had good luck with an additive specifically designed for this. My wife’s Acura had the same issue, they fixed it with a transmission oil change and additive.

 

I have a 2022 SR5 and I use 93 octane now. I started with 87 then 89 and now 93. Every time the octane increased, the truck preformed better and better. If you have extra cash, try this for a month and see if there is any difference.

Well, all I can say is that my Tacoma now runs and shifts just as good as my 2001 Tundra. I live in SW Ga. where the only hills we have are fire ant mounds and now I'm vacationing in the North Ga mountains and have 0 drivability issues. I do not see any harm to run a few tanks of 93 to see what happens.

I can’t speak for all tuners/vendors, but am happy to share our processes.

The service includes updating your truck’s factory calibration (if needed) with Toyota’s TechStream software. Someone earlier referred to this as a transmission ECU update. This is an accurate description, but often times, TSBs also include engine ECU updates. In either case, we take care of both. From there, we would select a tune file with consideration given to your driving preferences and any upgrades you have on the truck. That file would then be flashed to the truck and away you go on a test drive. When you return, we would adjust the throttle response if you want. We have three options and you’re welcome to try them all if you’d like.

We include tailored tunes for certain truck upgrades like gearing, tire size and deep cycle batteries. If your truck already has any of these upgrades, we would flash the truck with the appropriate tune. If you perform these upgrades later, you’d just need to let me know and we will update your file at no extra cost. We also offer a certain level of customization at no additional cost: Adjustments to shift points? No problem. Want a throttle response that’s different than what we have off the shelf? You got it. Our developer is readily available and always eager to help any way we can. We also have local shop partners that are happy to help with anything that I can’t directly support.

Lastly, there are certain items on most trucks that can be customized using the same TechStream software mentioned above. Examples of customization options include silencing the seat belt chime and adjusting the number of flashes for your turn signals.

The service fee is $400 and the whole process usually takes about 15-30 min. We accept cash or Venmo for payment.

This is what I did....stay away from 87 and you will see an improvement

 

I had a 2001 tundra, and can honestly say that my 2020 tacoma auto shifts smoother than the tundra. My tundra had a 4.7 v8, it towed better with 89 grade fuel vs 87. My tacoma doesn't like any grade above 87. All our fuels are E10

 

The best gas is the gas that hasn't sat in the underground tanks for too long. If the gas station is in an area where people as a rule don't pay more than they can for gas then I'd wager the Supreme tank doesn't get rotated very often and all sorts of junk just sits in there plus the gas starts to break down, so using that nasty gas won't help at all...just clogs your filters. Perhaps ethanol-free Supreme works better but $$$$$$

As far as ECU tunes go, I've heard that manual transmission trucks have a better tune available called Coyoza (search the forums here) that is made for MT because things are different. Everyone knows that automatics from the factory have lots of problems so any tune would be better than leaving it stock, but MT folks might want to do more research before selecting a tune that focuses on AT trucks.

Not sure if that is true cause my 2021 Sport has been flawless for transmission issue no shit.

 

I haven't heard what the problem is yet why some of these later gen3 trucks run very well, yet other's complain they don't, only that they could be the way their owners initially drive them during the break-in period. I know there's something to it as I've seen it on a buddies. He installed a lift with 33' tires right from the get-go. His truck never performed the same as mine even after he put it back to stock.

 

Can anyone help, 2011 tacoma 189,000 miles, when I turn truck on, the engine sounds great but when I drive is stalls. hope to hear from someone. Thanks
