We’ll get there. My father was born in 1918 in rural Alabama. He told me he remembers the first time he saw a car, it was in the late 1920’s.

As a kid growing up in Detroit all the busses / street cars were electric at some point they got switched to Detroit Diesel’s.

Many car makers tout smartphone connectivity as a selling point, but GM won't in the future. In a Reutersinterview, GM digital chief Edward Kummer and executive cockpit director Mike Himche say GM will phase out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with upcoming electric cars, beginning with the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV. Instead, you'll have to rely on Android Automotive and its apps.

Users will get eight years of free Google Assistant and Google Maps use at no extra charge, GM says. The company doesn't mention what you'll pay if you still need those functions afterward. We've asked GM for comment. It will still offer CarPlay and Android Auto in combustion engine models, and you won't lose access on existing EVs. GM plans an all-electric passenger vehicle line by 2035.

None of those features are a selling point for me. I'm in the minority when it comes to vehicle tech, most people I know don't use much in vehicle tech, and those that do only occasionally use GPS. Many people I know don't even use that, they aren't going places they haven't been before.

In 2035 might not need any of that connectivity?

Most everyone I know is a middle aged gen Xer or a boomer, even the millennials I know don't use in car tech. Most of them use their device for gps. I only think it's usefull if you travel to a lot of unfamiliar places, or spend a lot of your day in a vehicle and take multiple calls during that time.

The new technology is pretty cool, what I understand. Hell I will be happy if I’m alive 2035.

I'll take technology over sleeping in a public toilet any day.

No plans on sleeping in a public restroom, not sure what that has to do with a thread on electric vehicles.

If those were the only two choices a person had. I'm not that in to tech, but I think it would be a better choice than the alternative.

Yeah I think we let the tech genie out of the bottle too quickly, IMO.

I caved and ended up bringing this Model Y home yesterday. I had been thinking Id end up with a Model 3, but the Y is just as fun to drive and having the extra room makes it better suited for my needs.

I love my Model Y and you're right it is an absolute blast to drive. It has completely replaced my Tacoma as the daily driver and road tripper. It's not a perfect car, but it's the best car I've ever owned.
