If your current truck is good, why roll the dice?

With good care your current truck should have 200K+ miles yet to go.
Keep your money in your pocket, or better yet - invest it wisely.

doesn’t sound like you have a compelling reason to upgrade. if there was something you’d wish you got in the first place or you needed some extra capability, say like a different engine/trans/4x4, but you otherwise loved the truck, then would make more sense to get a 2023. but just because you got a good offer on a truck with known high resale value and going SR to SR5 doesn’t seem good enough.

just ride it out for a couple more years, stack your cash in a high-yield savings account, and get a 2027 model… an even 10 model years of spacing is respectable and you’ll still get good value on the truck as a McDonald’s cheeseburger will probably cost $20 by then

A beater + new AC is still less than a new 23 SR5.

I moved to AZ for desert and offroad. My 2007 Corolla gave just a slight twitch (relatively) which gave me an excuse (not really a reason ... probably $400 would fixed problem) to upgrade to TRD OR. That plus I am old and may die on my next off-road trip.

I had a semi-compelling reason to re-enter making monthly car payments. You should decide carefully and with good reasons.

well considering you would be getting 6k more for your truck than when you bought it 6 years ago, I wouldn’t call a 2023 outdated in 9 months lol. If you decide to sell your 2023 in 6 years you’ll still get good money for it.

28.4K seems a bit high for a 2wd? I would make sure that something didn't get screwed up in that estimate. I've put mine in a few times before and it's a 2017 TRD Sport 4wd with 28k and the number is around 27.5K. I know region makes a difference but just make sure.

Debated this heavily, decided to go with a 23 a few weeks ago. Just didn’t want anything to do with turbos. I bet they have a lot of issues the first few years. Just look at all the major issues with the tundra

Go with the '23 - if it's true that the '24 will have a 4.0 Turbo in it your '23 will be worth its weight in Gold.

Don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Something about tried and true reliability.

I'm old school, No replacement for displacement. Forcing more power from a smaller displacement using wearable items is not the direction I choose to go

A quick read through this thread has me thinking that I’ll have to do some homework. Pretty much ready to dump my ‘21 TRDOR but undecided on what to buy next… might have to reconsider turbos!
My current Taco is my sixth, though this is my first (and last) 3rd gen. For me, Toyota really screwed with a good thing on this round, this motor/trans combination is horrid. Added to that I have little faith in the long term “reliability” of this platform. That said I’m still a Toyota loyalist so yeah, time to consider a turbo!

OP - life is just too darn short to not drive the Tacoma (or Colorado, or Frontier, etc.) you want….. especially when you can get so much for selling your 2017

You are not talking about possibly making a personal finance altering decision dropping $80K for a new full size Tundra - just $8K for a new Tacoma

This is entirely not a “right” or “wrong” decision - just do what you “want”

Well, my Carvana offer expired a week ago, and I found that I didn't have a paper title, so couldn't have sold it to them anyway. Today I received the paper title, and for the hell of it, ran it through again. Their offer went up to $29,930. While I'd prefer to keep $6K in my pocket, now I'm really struggling. Brand new, '23 SR5 for $6K out-of-pocket. I didn't realize the SR5 had a factory installed tow hitch, additional cooler, rear AC vents, etc.
