You just claimed they set the bar, they don’t. I don’t disagree that it has worked for them so far.

How many midsizer buyers are looking at a truck and wondering if they could sleep in the bed?

Right. They have set the bar for a great reliable dependable trucks. I buy them because American trucks, to me, are garbage. Owned many, but never again. They (Toyota) are to me, in their own league.

Okay, i would definitely agree with that. They have set the reliability standard and i wouldn’t own American either. I just hate how slow to innovate they are. I would love a 700HP Tacoma that gets 70MPGe like the f150 lightning or Rivian R1T.

700HP in a Tacoma would twist the frame.

I believe the strategy was to produce a Tacoma bev with this new generation, but since that was rumored Toyota has acknowledged that their bev strategy was flawed and is currently revising it...

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
I’m not trying to stir the pot here but are most of you really comfortable buying the first year of this guy? Just curious.

No idea. In the groups I run in it's incredibly common though.

Yes, but I regularly get a new vehicle every few years, so I might be a bad representative.

I own the second year of the current gen and it has had a fair share of issues, so... moderately comfortable?
That being said I'll probably sit the first year out and see what the market looks like.

Sleep in the bed, carry a motorcycle/quad in the bed, carry lumber in the bed... DCLB outnumbers DCSB in my region actually.

Cost benefit. The costs associated with having multiple value streams to include more stamping dies for the longer bed, a second frame length, drive shaft, brake lines, etc (there's a lot of part numbers associated with a longer frame/chassis). Verses the sales benefits of the long bed? Nowadays people using trucks as a glorified chonky sedan, I can see them going away from the long bed. A lot of people would rather a short bed tacoma than jump ship for a 6ft bed alternative, too. Factor all that in and $$ says....Drop the long bed!

(I don't have their actual numbers to work off of though, so they may see a benefit still, and make it still, and I can't find sales broken out by trim/wheelbase).

I would deff wait for the following year.

I checked out a new tundra at the dealer last weekend while my 18 was getting an oil change. The CEL was on and it only had 12 miles on it lol.

Can't be a common request from Tacoma buyers overall. I do see alot of sleeping platform setups here, and if you do want to sleep in the bed a short bed isn't going to cut it. I prefer the longer bed, I also prefer a regular cab. I also see more DCSB on here than anything else.

Similar to the ranger re-release first year in my opinion. The thing shares a chassis/platform with the tundra. The ranger used an existing engine, transmission, and chassis (from overseas markets) and the first years did normal, a few things here and there but nothing too much over a regular run year anyway.

I won't buy it simply because I have another 240k before I consider my truck "spent". If I was buying a new vehicle in MY 2024 I wouldn't shy away too hard. :notsure:

In my area I see 3 short beds to 1 long bed.

Right, most people who buy these trucks see them as glorified cross-overs with a bed.
