Moral of the story: Never, EVER let the dealer touch your car. Any car for that matter.

OP, if it makes you feel any better.
I don’t check my oil after I’ve had it changed. I don’t check it every time I fill up with gas either. People make mistakes, the tech left the cap off. It shouldn’t happen if proper procedures were in place. But it happens.

I think you will be 100% fine.
And I would not let this experience cause you to distrust the dealership. This was an accident. It wasn’t intentional.

Let them make it right. And forget about it. Worrying about it won’t help anything.

Thank you! Yeah, as mentioned, hindsight is 20/20...I could have checked at least once from January to now. The truck is there now and I'm giving them the opportunity to make it right. Here's hoping the truck continues to run strong and it exceeds my expectations on reliability and longevity. Again, thanks for the reassurance.

True but, but if i bring a truck in and its not leaking oil and then it comes out after an oil change and it is leaking oil.. i dont need to know how to change the oil to know something isnt right.

For the record that happened on my 2nd free oil change.

There is no sensor for the oil cap. First sensor to go off may be the low oil, or low oil pressure, sensor. You may notice the missing cap before then from smoke as oil droplets land on the exhaust or you smell the burning oil.

    OP,
As @Bishop84 mentioned, there’s little worry about, as there’s positive pressure, not negative.

Maybe a slight mess, hassle of bringing back, but the most damaged part is most likely your confidence in their work. Everyone handles things differently, but in my latter years, sometimes I handle situations like this with an earned challenge; how are you going to get better? Can you share with me a process of quality control?
Some truly want to get better, some don’t, I think you’ll have a good idea of which camp they’re in, based on their response.
    GL!

I appreciate your response. I've only heard good things about this dealership so I really want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I work in the service industry too and I understand mistakes happen. They have taken accountability thus far and already confirmed they will be cleaning the truck, engine bay, and shampooing wheel wells and undercarriage (the majority of the mess was there). They recommended a free engine flush prior to changing the oil, I don't know too much about their procedure, but I will read up on it.

You’re a good person, let em make it right. I don’t know how many times a customer has complained, and we dig deep and realize, while the person did make a mistake, there’s often many things that WE should do to support, train, etc that employee. So now we have happy customers and employees (he/she wasn’t proud of being the reason things went wrong).

    Had a similar issue,

Took truck in for an oil change. Upon inspection they had replaced my oil cap with a 710.

I told them I belonged to TacomaWorld and they immediately resolved the issue. (flex)

While you are at it, you should show them what you are using to filter your oil.:)
