The tailgate pic was posted on IG at 2:03 AM Pacific time. I wonder if they’ll release a teaser at either 4:04 or 4:44

I understand where you are coming from as well. Ford F Series is #1 or #2 truck sold if I am not mistaken. They have their own loyalty that follows as well. Ford owners tend to like big engines and ‘the American way’ so of course they will lean more towards 700hp electric trucks. They are also used to the lacking reliability. Do we think 70k F150 trucks will be on the road in 25 years? Can almost ask that question for Toyota as well. Would an electric Toyota be as reliable as their first 4 generations?

Toyota is smart and doesn’t dive right into the newest and hottest trends. Ford pushed all their chips into electric. If it works out, great. But if full EV doesn’t pan out, then what?

As far as the demand, toyota will sell whatever they put out. But the louder group is definitely not the 700hp, foot massagers and alcantara seats.

While I agree that the writing is on the wall, the current technology in the market isn't at the level it needs to be. The range/recharge ratio needs improvement, and as a giant automaker you don't want to bet on the wrong technology now and be left in the dust... I think Ford is taking a huge gamble with their lithium battery packs (not cells) that if battery technology takes a turn in another direction they will be left stuck with what they have. Toyota seems to be waiting for the technology race to settle and then move quickly after. Tesla is the best of both worlds investing in both current tech and advancing the new tech.

Edit: I do think the change in CEO at Toyota is a direct reflection of the BEV market...

    I agree

I take my dirtbike to spots where I actually have to do some fairly hard wheeling. I need my departure angle for those trails. Would absolutely drag the tailgate with it down. Also sleeping under my Softopper is nice Feels more secure in high wind vs a RTT.

I will lose respect for Toyota if they discontinue heritage cab and bed configurations like the ACLB. They are killing their NA V6s, manuals, moved assembly to Mexico, turned the tundra into an overpriced Instagram truck, etc.

Once all of information about the 4th gen is released, the 3rd gen folks will find any little difference or change or new technology to complain about, turning them into the very thing they once hated so much. And the circle of life continues.

I joined this forum after I got my Tacoma in 2018. Just curious, what was the consensus in here when the first few images of the 3rd gen leaked?

I think the AC is done. Given the low production numbers at Nissan I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinued the king cab. Of course they would retain market exclusivity if they keep it. Maybe they'll offer LED headlights on the KC in 24.
