I’m a fan of the stock good years. I’ve swapped out the stock tires on every new truck I’ve ever bought because I do a fair bit of off roading, and stock tires generally just look so weak and bland on all trucks.
But the good years that come on the trd off road looked good enough that decided to run them a while and see now they did .
So far I’m very impressed, they might be the best at tires Ive ever driven in snow . I’ve had bfgs, general grabbers and falkens, and although all those tires look better, I really don’t think any of them are as good, or at least not better than these good years in the snow .
These good years are quiet and smooth on the highways and the gas mileage is good, and with how capable the Tacoma is off road in stock form, the tires don’t hold me back in any situation.
I can’t believe it, but I honestly think I will replace these with the same tires when they are worn out . Another perk to these tires is that there’s many sets of brand new take offs of them for sale everywhere because so any people buy new Tacoma’s and mod them from day one. My dealer usually had a few new sets on wheels sitting around for sale.
So when it comes time together new tires, a new set of these good years will be cheap cheap.

I am following everyone's posts, thank you very much. I was in between the Falken Wildpeak and the Toyo AT3 when someone mentioned the Michelin Defender LTX's. I like the look of the Falcon and Toyo much better, but the Michelin Defender may be much better for stop and go city traffic as well as highway traffic. I can't confirm that, but I am still doing my research.

    Thank you all again!

Has anyone tried the Falken Rubitrek’s? I was making my purchase on the Wildpeak AT/3W when I came across the Rubitreks.

I have not seen much on them, but what I have they are better for city type driving. They look a little less aggressive so that would make sense. And the weight on them seems pretty good too.

Another option that hasn't been mentioned much is the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus. I've been pretty happy with mine, but I don't really have much to compare to!

Just when I was set on Falken’s…haha. They are really nice. They look very similar to the Falken Rubitrek’s.

I’d avoid Falkens. Toyos are a much better quality tire.

Yeah, like I said I don't have much to compare to. I had a set of BF Goodrich Baja something or others on my 2nd Gen. They wore like iron and aged out from weather checking before the tread was gone, but they were pretty loud on the highway. I replaced them with Hankook Dynapro AT2's which were a decent tired. But yeah, these Pirelli's have done everything I've asked of them so far and are also a good, light, highway tire. I generally seem to get about 20-21mpg according the computer calculations.

I did a bunch of reading and Toyo’s were my second choice. The only reason I was going Falken is because they had much better reviews in the noise department. I am all city driving and the Falken’s seemed to do a little better in that department. NO off road whatsoever.

I’ve had both and the noise has seemed the same to me. Neither came across as a loud tire at all.

Falkens would not balance for crap, Toyos are the smoothest tires I’ve ever owned.

Both have good pavement grip, falken maybe a bit better in wet, but Toyos not bad at all. Proper pressure is more important than anything.

Falkens were significantly heavier for the same size and handled worse in slow speed. Lots of scrubbing feedback from the pavement.

the biggest problem with falkens is tons of people have balancing issues. Then they go to the shop and have them rebalanced 3 more times to no avail. You may not have problems, or you might. I have not seen any toyos have balancing issues.

just my experiences after having both. I wanted to love the falkens, but I could not.

Wow! That is some really good information. I did not know there were those kind of issues. I seen a lot of people rant and rave about Falkens (I even seen them stock on Dodge Ram), and then when I saw the Rubitrek's I started digging. One guy swore by them over his Wildpeak's on his Tacoma.

Back to the drawing board! I thought I had the Toyo's as a definite #2, but I guess not...haha

the defenders are the best street tire out there, and are good in snow for a street tire, they are tough and have the BEST ride, and wear good

The Defenders were on my list. Hands down the best for street....However, they have zero looks to them for putting them on a TRD.

The defenders wear like iron, but I think they have relatively crappy traction.

I feel like I am making a life altering decision over a set of tires....haha. I need to just pick one and roll with it. Live and learn. I can get the Falken Rubitrek's in one day installed for $175 per tire. I think I may give them a try for that price.

Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S or BFG Trail Terrains are both great tires. I have the AT3 XLT on my pro and the trail terrains on my 4runner.

Defenders are great for wet, icy and snow covered roads. I have only run them on my stuff for years until today. Had to try out the MT's, but will run back to the Defenders if they make them look better for our trucks. Yeah, I cheated on Michelin because of looks. . . . I'm such a whore.

I have Yokohama Geolander A/T G015. They are as quiet as highway tires and are snowflake rated. They have a good looking sidewall even though the tread is pretty mild.
