I mean you joke but that's how my old 300ZX was. It ran a maf before the turbo and just didn't have a blow off because it would cause it to die. Then you get the fun chuchu noises lol. I think if you partially recirculate you won't have a problem, there's some valves that do that

Off hand not sure which spring, but I made no changes before installing.

If your Maf is after turbo but Bov is before Maf then hypothetically you should be ok to vent it.

I recirc mine since truck sees alot of dirt miles and I want less chance of dust finding its way in.

I edited just after you responded, thoughts on my addition?

"I am auto trans so maybe not when pulling boost through gears, but possible more likely from WOT to completely off the pedal"

I have seen the bov or no bov debates, but I am more risk adverse and another minor expense to protect the large expense of the whole project just makes sense.

It'll probably just be a minor issue then when getting off the throttle quick.

How might dust find it's way in the BOV? Shouldn't it only be open when there's positive charge pipe pressure and negative manifold pressure?

    Thanks!

I had thoughts to put a filter on the blow off for the same reasons but recirc likely makes more since if rich spike issues are severe enough

Having the automatic transmission I would recommend a cooler and valve body upgrade. I ran auto for approx two years before it died even with a cooler. Supercharged, twin charged and then turbo with 33s and 35s. I do miss it some times now looking back.

For sure, cooler is already installed for the last few years haven't seen higher than 200 degrees since, Transgo kit is on the way as of today as well!

@Speedytech7 at idle or similar situation the valve can be open. If you are running with a group or doing donuts there is alot of junk in the air. I perfer to keep as much out of my engine as possible.

That kinda sounds like too weak of a BOV spring. I'll have to keep an eye on mine, if I can't keep it closed at idle and tial doesn't have the appropriate spring for the 22in Hg that the 5vz usually pulls I'll switch for a recirc valve.

Typically they are open at idle.

I always had my TurboXS valve adjusted closed at idle (never had a tial so I don't know their spring rates) on my 300zx. But it should only take like a 11psi spring to keep it closed at idle maybe a 10. I definitely don't want it open at idle though and I can't imagine that works for people with MAF cars very well, unless they all have their BOV before it.

It shouldn't matter for you, aren't you using a Map sensor based ecu? Only possible issue is dust entering system.

Yeah I'm using a MAP system, but my truck sees 80% of its heavy use on dirt with other folks. I've never heard of anyone having an open BOV at idle before (that didn't have a centrifugal supercharger at least) so you got me searching. This is a weird Tial thing, some guys love it and some hate it. But just like any other BOV you just get the appropriate spring and it'll stay closed at idle. Tial ships them with a pretty light spring I guess and some folks just take that as a characteristic of their valves and live with it. Looks like it's just like changing a wastegate spring so easy enough to try it out.

I don't think that will work either. The air that hits the throttle plate will be forced back through the MAF sensor causing issues. I ran with no bov for a little bit but would still have maf problems with it preturbo. Recirc is the only way to avoid problems with it.

BOV pre MAF works fine. As long as you give it about 6 to 8 inches gap. May or may not require a flow straightener.

I have the TiAL BOV. Changed the spring out so that it is closed during idle.
