Wow, thank you all for offering. Looks like there's plenty of traffic headed my way but it sounds like @deanosaurus might be the first one making the trip and @MikefromCT will be at the same mod day. Let's see if we can make that work. Otherwise, I'm practically right on RT2 halfway between I-91 @ St. Johnsbury and I-89 @ Montpelier, either one is about a 30 minute drive for me and I'd be willing to meet elsewhere too for anyone not coming that far north.

How do those rental bikes/scooters work? They have GPS in them? Seems like a lot of people rent them and dump them on the Cranston line. Maybe they only work within a designated area? I've seen those bikes sitting on the corner, sometimes for a couple weeks before they disappear.

GPS monitored and they’re programmed to shut off if they leave the GPS boundary. At least the handful I’ve used out west have been that way. Sensitive enough to know if you’re on the sidewalk and they’ll shut down then as well since they’re intended for street use only in most places. The company will come around and move them or swap them out fairly often as well.

    Yup that's exactly it.

    upload_2023-4-5_11-24-52.jpg

You pick one up, scan the QR code that says "I'm using scooter 12345" and then when you're done you sign off. I think it charges by time not miles but I don't really know. I only used one for a couple minutes to try them out to see if I'd want one.

they hire people (contract gig workers) to round them up and charge them. If it's fully charged then it won't necessarily trigger someone to go get it and move it.

I've asked for tree help before here. Found this yesterday looking at it. Does anyone know of this is something that'll grow back again if I chop it low? Looks like someone has done this in the past.

I'm not a tree expert, but the smaller trees and bushes i've cut back over the past few years have all tried to grow back. And of course if they don't a new tree tries to grow next to the stump.

When I was clearing Forsythia out of my back yard a few years ago it wasn't enough to just cut them back. I had to dig out the stumps, burn the stumps, burn the ashes, and then dump the ashes out in the woods. If I didn't they'd grow back. In fact, occasionally I still find a stump growing up out of nowhere.

As far as I know, it'll make offshoots like in your picture, but that may take a while. If you chop it really low, it may grow outward more than upwards and leave a gap in the middle.
I think @NoFear9491 may know more.

Is there any electricians here? I am looking to install a 100 amp sub panel in my barn and am getting conflicting info on what gauge wire I need. Only a 30 ft run.

If it were me, I'd be using 1/0. Also, not an electrician but I've been known to dabble and tend to go overkill when it comes to sizing wires.

Ditto. I've been accused of "over engineering" automotive electrical work. 30 feet isn't that long a run, but you probably don't want to run it and then find it out it's not heavy enough.

Depends on what type of wire (copper, aluminum, temperature rating of the specific type).

For a similar length run I did 2 gauge aluminum USE-2. I think I can safely do 90 amp when looking at the charts but figured I am not going to pull anywhere close to that much current anyway so 70 gives me a bit of a safety factor.

Using the same USE-2 aluminum, 1/0 looks to be definitely safe for 100 amp. Copper can go a little thinner, but is much more expensive.

(Also not an electrician, but try to do things in a way that won't destroy my house)

I am almost positive this is what I ran: https://www.southwire.com/wire-cabl...le-with-alumaflex-brand-conductors/p/28712801

The stuff I bought was rated for direct burial, but I ran it above ground in 2" PVC attached to the foundation of the addition (between the house and garage) since the garage is attached. There is an attic in the addition but it isn't very accessible so that would have been challenging. I did break one rule that I discovered later - it sounds like because I used conduit outside, I'm supposed to use conduit all the way from panel to panel. Once the wire was inside, I ended the conduit on both ends. That wouldn't be the end of the world to fix later to be to code, but would have been easier to do in the first place.

Other things I learned that I think are correct: you need to separate your grounds at the subpanel. On mine, I needed to buy a ground bus bar that had a plastic piece to isolate it from the neutrals. I didn't need a main breaker/disconnect in the garage because it's attached, but a detached one would need that.

Yeah I'm thinking 1 guage al wire ran in conduit underground is the way.
