Front and Rear measurements ?????

Question:

Are the front and rear fender heights suppose to be equal when the truck is level?

I ask because i see how often people are measuring these points

to determine if their truck is level.

Personally, i dont think the fender heights are equal when the truck is level.

I look more toward the frame, and bed rails to see if truck is level.

I have been wondering this for awhile, and want to get others impression.

 

Rear is supposed to be higher. It will settle when loaded.
If you dont load it and dont care , "leveling" kits bring them more together. You'll need to adjust your headlights though.

 

At stock height, the rear fenders sit between 1/2 and 1 inch higher (depending on the side...taco lean). Here's a post I recently placed that has the fender height measurements at stock, so you can see what the difference was originally.

the reason i bring this up is i hear people saying there truck is level

because their fender heights are the same.

and to me that would really mean they are sitting nose high

 

Im talking more about how do you determine if your truck sits level.

not how to level your truck

some use the fender heights.

im saying that would be a wrong indication

Good question.. guess you could be on level ground, and put a magnetic level on the underside of the frame. But right there is where another problem lies.. Haven't found "true" level ground yet..

 

I get what you are asking...
I'd just take a level to the chassis and see what it tells you. Of course you would need the truck on level ground to begin with.

The thing is why do you care?
Most just care about the physical appearance and stance of the truck. Understanding that what appears to be a level shell doesn't necessarily equal a level chassis.

 

i bring it up because so many give measurments , mostly from the fenders

and if the fenders aren't equal when the truck is level

then how do you determine it.

im not losing any sleep over this, its just a interesting question

how do you measure your truck being level, or noise high, etc ??
