I have a 2022 Tacoma TRD OR double cab 6FT bed. Toyota says MPG is 19/24 but my average which is mostly highway comes out to 18MPG. I’m a pretty careful driver. What should I look into ? Is this normal ?

Pretty normal for combined city/highway everyday driving on these trucks. If you start putting mods on it like a lift or bigger, heavier tires it will go down even more.

Don't go by the display, they are notoriously inaccurate. Do the math and calculate manually.

doesn’t have anything done to it…. Yet lol. But with just street being 19 shouldn’t a combined T least be higher than 19. Especially when most is highway

The EPA highway number is calculated at a much lower speed then you typically do on the highway. Once you hit 75 or so mileage tanks. If I am running low to mid 60's I easily pull 22-23 mpg. At 75-80 it is more like 17.5-18

Depends on your speed and headwinds. These trucks hate going above 70 on the highway for gas mileage. I've run the range of anywhere from 17 to 21 mpg on 100 mile highway runs at 75 mph depending on winds. This is what it is. Get used to it :)

Your truck will do 90! I got to 88 once, but I ended up crashing into a tree farm in 1955.

Sounds about right. My 22 SR5 V6 DCLB would pull down 21'ish mostly highway and 22 at best and that's with the smaller, lighter SR5 tires that have less rolling resistance. Running 75+ mph is gonna hurt your mpg a bit.

I just got 26 mpg all flat steady 50 mph over a 32 mile trip in moving traffic. I get 13 mpg in stop n go traffic with lights.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
All depends on your driving habits and trip lengths.
The MPGs on a trip don't peak until the engine & trans have reached normal operating temperature. If you're doing frequent short trips < 5-10 miles or so you're not gonna get the best MPGs.
If you are driving at today's "normal" speed on the freeways (e.g. 75+), you won't be getting high MPGs. I maintain a reasonable 65 on freeways but don't always get friendly glances from those going by.
Taco's cruise control sucks at facilitating good MPGs - unless you're on flat terrain for miles & miles.
EDIT3: My overall average after 24K miles on my '21 TRD is 18.2 MPG - the peak was 21.2 MPG on a freeway trip from New England to Tennessee & back. [Corrected - grabbed the wrong numbers from my spreadsheet]
Other factors: Time of year (e.g. Winter fuel), how you accelerate, short trips to the store, warm-up time, how you manage the skinny pedal, etc.
While I own a Taco primarily for its versatility, fuel economy was a consideration. The 4.0V6 in my '06 Gen 2 averaged 16.3 MPG over 127K miles - not appreciably different than my '21.
    YMMV
EDIT: BTW the trip mileage on the odo is BS when comparing. The overage tank average on the odo is usually with 1-2 MPG of calculated. What really is meaningful is the calculated MPGs from fill-up to fill-up. That's what you're really paying for.
EDIT2: Most 3.5V6 owners who are bragging about their 24+ MPG numbers are using only the per Trip MPGs. I can easily push my Per Trip MPGs to almost 30 - immediately after a fill-up and driving ONLY downhill or level for about 50 miles.

I do a pretty mixed bag of highway/city driving and I average around 17MPG. That’s with slightly more aggressive tires and pedal commander installed.

My truck got about 22 mpg in the Arizona mountains. It gets about 17 to 18 mpg in Knoxville. The indicated mpg is pretty close, btw.

My tank average comes in at about 20 to 21 mixed driving… my trip mpg. Comes in at 19-24 mpg…. Calculating manually after a fill up my tank average reads .5 mpg higher. Than actual.

Do the math yourself when you fill up at the pump, number of miles per tank divided by the number of gallons you filled up with. You will find the numbers on the dash are not accurate. I've had it tell me 21-22 while cruising on backroads at 55-60 MPH, and then it drops like a rock to 14-16 once you are going 65-70 based on the computer built in, when I do the math myself, I almost always find I get 18-20 on the highway doing over 60, and in town or lower speeds with lots of starting and stopping, I've seen as low as 15-16. It really depends, and changes drastically depending on the direction and speed of the wind. I've had road trips on stock tires where I got 21 MPG over a 1200 mile trip one way, and then 17 MPG on the way back.

My display routinely tells me I'm getting 1-3 mpg worse than I actually am, don't pay much attention to it.

Check it the old fashion….well…modern old fashion way. If you’re running iOS, get “mileage keeper” on the App Store, free.

I’ve used it since I bought the truck with every fill for 4 years. My DCSB sport has a lifetime 20.6 mpg, stock with only the bed cover the only mod that would effect it.

The dash gauge is consistently off that but I know the app is right because it’s figuring miles/gallons off the gas pump meter. So long as you are consistent tracking your fill ups it will be accurate.
