New member. Thank you for the add. I have the 2018 SR Access cab which means no remote keyless access and no passenger door lock cylinder. So the only way to unlock is to go to the driver’s side door. I have read the threads about the Southeast Toyota remote access kit but that is not something I’m interested in. I am wondering if anyone has attempted to install a passenger door lock cylinder. I was thinking about trying a driver door handle end cap and lock cylinder. Anyone attempt this? On a side note, in appreciation of the add, I will post a separate thread with some video links of my rear speaker install. Thank you.

Did the access cab come with power lock?

I think he wants to unlock it from the passenger side without going to the driver’s side. Toyota used to offer keyed entry on both sides.

Yes it did. Unfortunately just not keyless entry.

You would need to drill for the lock. Get the duplicate key and lock. And add a few wires to the power lock system.

I can’t remember exact user name, something like Jeff Lange, he seems to be the resident parts guru. He posted overseas parts info on this recently to help someone. I think it was from right hand driver Tacomas or Hilux.

personally, I know some are star struck over their old school keys, but I’d just have a keyless entry alarm added before I went to those lengths. But, there’s no point in discussing, usually the key crowd won’t budge.

A big pain not being able to get in the passenger side without going around.

Are you saying I need to drill through the actual metal door skin behind the outer door handle? I guess that would make sense unless by luck the hole was already there for Rhd Applications.

The best part is the Main body ECU has the slots empty for the key unlock. A bit of a down side is, when you unlock the passenger door, the driver's door is also unlocked. (according to what I've gathered on the 3rd Gen.)

I don't think it has a plug where the lock would go...take a look

The lock cylinder on the driver door is in the plastic end cap of the door handle. So I was thinking I could get a new driver’s plastic end cap and use it on the passenger side. But who knows if the door skin is drilled out behind the door handle. I guess I would have to disassemble the door to answer these questions unless someone one has done it before me.

So if I could easily connect keyless entry with a remote, I would not care about the lack of a passenger door lock cylinder . If the ECU has some accommodation for remote entry, do you know what is needed to activate this feature?

The dealers sell an aftermarket "Toyota approved" keyless entry system.
I thought you were going full mod.:burp:

Not in front of the truck right now but I think the drivers door looks like this. I also think the passenger side has that same plastic plug. I wonder if it would be that simple as to buy a lock cylinder and slide it in. Hopefully the passenger side lock actuator is made to accept a lock cylinder. I may need to do some exploration.

You'd be missing the key lock wires that would go in parallel to the driver's key circuit at connector M6_slots 2 & 29

Are you referring to the kit sold at sparks Toyota online? That kit is a port and dealer installed part developed by Southeast toyota. Dealers in the rest of the country don’t recognize that part number. It’s basically an aftermarket kit. Im also not keen to crimping into the wire harness as that kit requires. Just my personal preference.
